The pigs still love Jazzer

Which I’m sure is of great comfort to him.

Amateur error, Pip

You need to be a bit obsessive about important ‘where and when’ happenings, and I’m sure we’ve all got the time of an exam/job interview/meeting etc wrong – but it’s hard to have sympathy for wee whiny Pip right now.

She’s lucky she’s got Elizabeth to help sort her out.

Is Tom the new Matt Crawford?

Did I hear that right? Was Tom passing off Vicky’s idea of veal and ham pie as his own?

Cheeky monkey!

I don’t think Tom quite has the brains to pull off s stunt that would be better suited to Matt (or even Brian).

And I can’t quite see Vicky taking this quietly ….

My daughter might be pregnant. Please talk to me about anything else.

So we’ll all find out this week if Helen is pregnant.

I have a spot of sympathy for Tony. But it’s not going to go away, my friend.

Will she, won’t she?!?

Of course it’s all David’s fault!

Poor David is now going to have Elizabeth on his back about his attitude to Jude.

Elizabeth is right that his approach has made Pip distant from him – but Pip not telling her folks about missing her exam isn’t quite down to David. That’d be Pi’s fault for not checking the time, and going out partying with her manboy.

“Leave it alone Lizzy”

It doesn’t look likely, Nigel. And if you don’t watch Elizabeth’s step, you might find that Jude and Pip end up under your roof, and quite squarely your problem.

ok, i have so many questions about this helen situation... inga, i hope you don't consider this a huge imposition, but your blog and tweets are the best archers-related stuff i've found thusfar. the message boards are far too negative (the people there seem to hate every character, and get "so bloody annoyed" with every story line literally 2-3 days after it's introduced). for that reason, you've become my go-to person on these things.

i'm a recent listener (less than 2 years), so i'm genuinely stumped on the brenda hatred. she's not the most appealing character on the show, but people online seem to loathe her, some even going so far as to wish miscarriage or death upon her, etc.

can you clue me in? when did this all start? i have gathered from spoken hints on the show that helen used to have a pretty serious eating disorder, and became very ill. did people already hate her then? and were they equally ugly in wishing for her demise? what on earth has this character done in the years i wasn't listening that's led to her status as Most Hated???

That's superb to hear. Huge thanks for that! I started this blog after my partner and friends couldn't cope with my Archers ramblings anymore. I absolutely agree about the message boards - folks seem to angry over there! Twitter has a great bunch of folks chatting about Archers stuff - i'm @thearchersfan

Sorry - did you mean Helen or Brenda? I'm assuming Helen.

I think the biggest problem people have with Helen is that she's so determined to control everything, yet doesn't seem to be able to move her own life forward in any way which would actually make her happy. Because of that, she can come over very whiny and opinionated without having the gumption to change things (so whiny and wet!).

I must admit to having a soft spot for Helen - she's not a nasty person by any means. She was hilarious when Annette dared to even breath in the flat (moving dishes to the sink before she'd even finished). I think she's going to be one of the more interesting folks in Ambridge as time goes on - imagine a pensionable age Helen! She'll hardly be mere wallpaper ...

So potted Helen history - brother John killed in an accident, boyfriend Greg Turner committed suicide (he was the father of Annette Turner), Helen was a big party girl and drinker (she ran over Mike Tucker one time, which everyone hushed up from the Police), she was anorexic - but went to counselling and become the Helen we now know.

Obviously - add to that the recent Leon experience, Annette having an abortion and now the baby.

So, I think it is absolutely unfair of folks to be wishing her ill, when she's actually hasn't (as far as I remember) ever set out to do something horrible to someone else.

It kinda feels like a pack attacking the weakest. Helen is very needy and express such, which isn't quite 'British'.

The main problem (I think) over Helen's pregnancy is that she is far from emotionally stable - and she seems to be determined to have a baby so that it will fix her life for her. That doesn't bode well, and she will control the child every which way.

I think Helen should have got a dog, join a dating website (not that I think anymone must have a partner - but she doesn't seem to function single) and/or take a few years away from Ambridge.

thank you! that's a lot of great info, and a plausible theory as to the hatred. yes indeed, i mentioned brenda by mistake. for the first year i listened, when neither of them had a big storyline, i always mixed brenda and helen up.

whenever people speak of archers history, it seems like there are so many deaths + suicides... and yet since i started listening only phil archer has passed on. not that i'm disappointed, just wondering if i'm listening during a dull period!

while i have your attention and your wonderful knowledge at my disposal, when was the last time an adulterous relationship was featured on the archers? i'm aware of brian's and ruth's... have there been any since?

for me - The Archers has peaks and troughs. Lots can happen even in just one episode, but sometimes it can feel like nothing happens for days, weeks, months ... all part of rural life!

on adultery - since Brian's, and my timeline won't be spot-on, but there was the whole Ed/Emma/Will triangle; I think Matt was married when he met Lilian; and
NB that Ruth 'nearly' had an affair (rather than doing to deed).

Not quite as racy as some other 'soaps', but i reckon more likely.

(and anyone else feel free to jump in and correct me!)

Agree with you on the veal and ham pie plan.
Vicky is going to be pretty upset with her future step son in law.
'Moike' will be livid.
can't wait!

I think we might get to see the real nasty side to Vicky when she finds out. It's been bubbling under the surface for a while now.

I can help on the past affairs question, being incredibly ancient and listening to TA all my life.
Brian had an affair with Caroline. Jenny eventually found out as did Peggy who has never quite forgiven C.
Jill had a bit of a thing with Larry Lovell, the theatrical lovey.
Jill got a bit jealous over Phils companionship with recently bereaved Heather.
Cathy and Dave Barry of course. Sid found out, much to Lucy's delight and threw Cathy out.
Matt was still married to Yvette when he moved in with Lilo Lil, then he chased Annabel Shrivener the BL solicitor.
Jennifer seduced by ex-husband Roger Travers Macy, she ended it and told Brian.
Debbies marriage ended when she discovered Simon was having an affair.
Richard Locke and Saint Shula. Richard was Usha's partner at the time.
Elizabeth and Robin Fairbrother, he was married.
David and his ex, Sophie, though nothing happened supposedly pushed Ruth and Sam together.
And of course Robert Snell and Freda Fry have been at it for years. He can't resist the good old fashioned cooking after the organic muesli and tofu he gets at home ...no sorry! Made that one up.

Probably more. Corrections welcome.

*snort* over Robert and Freda!

Great stuff Quiver. Good to have a proper TA timer on-board.

Thanks for that! I am new to this computer lark, was waiting to see if it was going to catch on.
Am really enjoying your blog!
My family, (the 'Quivering Brethren'), really don't understand my TA obsession.

Cheers! My family is the same - hence why I have to let it all out online! Welcome, welcome.
