Amy wants biscuits
But there aren’t any. Alan makes her a cheese sandwich instead.
Amy had only had a few chocolates during the day, which had been bought for her be a glowing couple who’d she’d midwifed for. They’d actually upset her by just being a couple:
[Amy] “Even that couple ... well, it’s not nice ... when I saw them together, and they were so happy ... (she starts crying. Usha comes in) … oh no … (and leaves)”
Alan isn’t any friendlier to Usha. He mentions that he’s off to visit a Mrs Smyth. Usha remembers her as being important to Alan, as she made him feel so welcome when he first arrived in Ambridge. But Alan blanks her. Again.
Court shadowed by Lynda
David was telling Ruth that the nasty men who attached Adam are in remand, next step is Crown Court.
[David] “Adam sounded pretty good ...visitations from Lynda aside. She's been pestering him about his garden ... apparently it’s blighting the village green”
Seems Adam gave in to Lynda (we did hear his reply to her badgering the other day), and David also reports that Tom (via Darrell and Elona) also gave way.
[David] “Apparently every beautiful village requires a Stalinist reign of terror”
David’s on heat
Ghastly, but unfortunately true.
She and David find themselves in Brookfield alone, which is a very rare occurrence.
[David] “Unless, that is, you don't fancy, um ...”
[Ruth] “Go and do your work mister, that'll cool you off in no time”
Blimey. Wonder if those will have a late baby … *shudder*
(anyway, sounded like Josh was still in the house)
Sounds like Josh & Phoebe is more Josh
We heard Josh and Phoebe talking on Skype today. Josh was excited about taking Phoebe to cricket during the summer (is Phoebe coming back then? Just for the summer, or for good?). Phoebe sounded rather nonplussed.
(David came in to kick Josh off so he could get some work done. Seems David thinks the only way to talk on Skype is to shout).
Later on, David teases Josh.
[David] “You're going to impress Phoebe with his cricketing prowess. He's going to show her his googlies!”
Josh is not amused. But I think David’s rush. Josh has his first proper crush.
Toy Story
Is what Alan puts on to try and comfort Amy. It was her favourite as a child. (good lordy that makes me feel old).
[Alan] “Back then, I could just put in on, cuddle up on the sofa, and in a minute she'd be lost in it … I want to help her, like I used to. I just feel so useless. She doesn't deserve this”
[Usha] “No, but you can't protect her from the world, can you?”
When Amy comes into the room with popcorn, Usha leaves them to it. Neither of them is making her feel particularly welcome or wanted.
Later on, Alan’s paused the film. Amy thinks it’s because he’s scared (especially of the spider doll).
[Alan] “Oh come on, it's like something out of the exorcist!”
He wants to talk to Amy. She’s all adrift, with no-one but him to turn to:
[Amy] “You're the only one I know you really loves me”
Alan reckons her next man friend will have to go through a hefty set of tests before he’ll get to date her:
[Alan] “CV, birth certificate, blood group”
But when Alan tries to talk to Amy about Usha, she clams up again.
Emma’s back at work
Well, after she left Lower Loxley, she didn’t quite Brookfield at the same time. But, she’s now back at Lower Loxley for the weekend. Ruth reckons they need the cash.
Well, Princess attire does cost.
Usha turns to Ruth
Well, Alan isn’t listening.
[Ruth] “I’m sure that once she gets over the shock, she'll see you were in an impossible situation”
[Usha] “If I ask about her, he says it’s none of my business ... if he got angry, actually started shouted, at least we could deal with it, but this ... I’m sick of it Ruth. He can see how she's treating me. Perhaps it’s his way of punishing me”
[Ruth] “Usha, you’ve got to stop blaming this yourself. It wasn’t your fault”
[Usha] “I’m not sure I’ve even entered his thoughts”
[Ruth] “if Alan won’t see it, then you'll just to make him”
Easier said than done. Amy and Alan formed a fairly exclusive bond after Catherine died.

Poly tunnels excite Tom
[Tom] “It’s arrived!”
[Jazzer] “My delivery for the playboy mansion? … aye, I saw the grin on your face. Only you could look that excited about a ploy tunnel”
The pig arks need moved … again!
Really – anyone know if pig arks need moved every other week?
It seems to be the only thing Tom ever tells Jazzer to do.
Jazzer’s none too happy about having to do it today. Tom suspects he has a hangover, but Jazzer reckons it’s just because he’s been up early doing the mil round (surely he does that most days?).
Adam and Jennifer give Darrell their thumbs up
[Darrell] “Takes more than a whack over the head to see this one, eh!”
Adam is out having a slow wander with Jennifer, stopping to have a chat with his near neighbour Darrell.
Adam reckons he’s sweet, Jennifer that he seems like a good chap.
Wonder if Jennifer would still think that if she knew he had a record …
Prison or the mother of your victim?
I reckon most would choose prison every time. Especially when that mother happens to be Jennifer Aldridge.
The nasty blokes who attacked Adam are on remand. They’ll face a court trial fairly soon.
[Jennifer] “Well, when they get one, I hope they throw away the key!”
[Adam] “Perhaps we should set you on them mum, then they’ll get what they deserve”
Don’t worry about the farm
Is what Brian and Jennifer keep telling Adam – but they’re the ones who keep mentioning it,
Seems the bloke who’s been hired to help I settling in well. Two of the deer have had calves, and the herd’s ear tagging is going well.
Lynda is doing odd things in the cemetery
Really, is there anything Lynda could do that would surprise us?
She’s been gathering broken eggshells. The broken eggshells mean the peregrines’ eggs are hatching. Lynda’s trying to work out how many chicks they have from the shells.
Well, that’s reasonable enough, I’d say.
Grubbed pasture
[Tom] “Ed had his pasture grubbed up, he thought one of the pigs might have escaped”
But no, all of Tom’s pigs are present and correct.
What could be doing that then? The Ambridge Beast …?
Harry didn’t get his shirt off
What a horrid man he is! Sabrina’s been on heat for months and months … all for nothing.
[Jazzer] “Did I tell ye, about Harry and Sabrina Thwaite? He did his lady Chatterley act for her … on her flower beds, for the promises auction, made sure his husband was away … not that she got her money’s worth, he kept his shirt on, mair fool him”
Poor Sabrina.
Though a good day for her husband Richard, I’d say.
(and again, why isn’t Harry speaking at the moment? Not like him to leave Jazzer to tell his business)

Lynda’s badly misbehaving
Lynda had earlier tried to corner Adam, but he and Jennifer had pleaded that he was tired and needed rest.
So, Lynda later went round his house. She didn’t take the hint, then.
He tells her again that he’s tired. But she’s not listening.
[Lynda] “Have you any plans for your front garden? … do you think you might spruce up? … It needn’t be too taxing. And gardening can be wonderfully therapeutic”
We didn’t get to hear Adam’s reply …
Next, we can hear Lynda and Tom having a rather loud and terse discussion, while we’re actually over at Elona and Darrell’s eavesdropping on their conversation.
[Lynda] “You see, I’m only referring to the parts of your garden that face the Green”
Lynda points out that The Bull and the Village shop will be perfect. Tom points out that they’re businesses. She then points out that Christine and Jim will also be perfect. Tom points out that they’re retired. He and Brenda work, and work all hours.
(well, Tom does. I’m sure Brenda could spare a few hours after she’s done making Matt and Lilian’s coffee)
[Lynda] “Even Adam’s agreed. Yes Tom. Even Adam. And I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be the one to spoilt it”
Tom tries to use Tony’s heart attack as an excuse (actually, it’s a fair one. Tom has to work extra to allow Tony to ease himself back into work gently).
[Lynda] “Maybe you should think of it as time to relax!”
Relax? Tom reckons he barely has time to breathe.
They’ve hit an impasse – until Darrell and Elona pop over. I thought they were about to complain about the noise, but they’re over to offer to do Tom and Brenda’s garden for them. Seems Elona has green fingers (but she also has at least 2 jobs … the busier helping the busy, it would seem).
[Lynda] “That’s what Britain in Bloom ought to be about, people pulling together to help one another, even when they’re still relatively new to the community. Upstanding citizens”
That’s the third resident to give Darrell and Elona their okay today. This must be heading to a great reveal of Darrell’s past.
Elona’s definitely an honest ‘un
Darrell’s chuffed that Matt is going to give him some regular work, 2 or 3 days a week at least.
Elona’s not so chuffed. Though they need the work, she’s not happy that Matt only pays Darrell cash in hand. She wants Darrell to talk to Matt about it, to make it a proper arrangement.
[Darrell] “I can’t. It’s none of my business”
The Archers Monday 7th May 2012
- Adam’s feeble

Adam’s feeble
But at least home.
Though he notices that he’s never noticed before how long he and Ian’s front path is …
Seems Debbie has been and gone. She came and left on Saturday (!).
And though Ian offers to fire up their hot tub (yes please, I’d say!), Adam’s happy to just sit and enjoy the view from home.
Though whether that had something to do with being able to see the Edgley Morris Men waving their handkerchiefs or not, is anyone’s guess.
The cricket team is suffering
Without Adam.
[Ian] “Seriously understrength were Alistair’s words”
Tom’s back to being an a*se
*sigh*
His humanity only lasted one day.
He’s back to normal. Moaning how Tony is annoying him.
[Tom] “I can understand why he can’t get his head round a new system … I just wish he’d hurry up and get better that’s all, he’d be much happier weeding carrots”
He goes on a rather long rant, but Brenda isn’t having it.
[Brenda] “It’s no good complaining about it to me. Will you just shut up about it for 5 minutes?”
She tells Tom to sort it out with Pat and Tony, and to concentrate back on the fact that they’re in the burger van, trying to serve a hungry queue of punters.
Amy sees Alan
Though Alice did have to persuade May not to tell him to go away.
They hug, and Alan’s asks why Amy felt she couldn’t talk to him.
[Amy] “I couldn’t even bring myself to say his name. I feel such a fool … I should have known. He was too good to be true … why would someone like that even look once at me?”
[Alan] “But you are beautiful. Anyone can see that”
[Amy] “I was so careful dad. I really took my time … and I love him dad. I thought it would be hard to love someone, but it was easy … I thought he loved me too”
[Alan] “We were all taken in by him. I thought he was lovely too”
Alan did well not to react when Amy mentioned that she had slept with Carl (whether she took her time or not).
And both she and Alan were still offended that Usha could think she would, could, have an affair with a married man.
Brenda’s dripping
And rather furious.
Tom keeps answering the phone to Tony when he should be helping her to cook and serve.
[Brenda] “If that phone goes again, do not answer it … change, buns, mustard Tom!””
After charging one customer £14 for something (I hope it was at least 10 sausages!):
[Brenda] “It’s tropical in here. I’m dripping”
Then Tom’s phone goes again. Though he’d promised not to answer it, it’s Pat this time. Which means it must be an emergency.
It wasn’t. They just couldn’t find the key to the feed stock.
Brenda threatens to walk out. Tom hands up.
After their day is done:
[Brenda] “Seven phone calls while the burgers burnt and the queue got mutinous!”
[Tom] “I’m not being big headed Bren, it’s just, well I need to be there. Well, until dad’s back on his feet”
So Bridge Farm now cannot function without Tom. So Tom can’t do his burger van, as it means leaving his folks to cope alone.
But it’s okay.
Tom has someone in mind to take over the vans.
And that was today’s cliff-hanger.
Seriously.
And anyhoo, where’s Helen? Not like her to be away, or quiet, or leave Tom to rule the roost.
The Archers Friday 4th May 2012
- Debbie makes an effort
- Jennifer’s washing walls
- Alice doesn’t sound like a fan of Carl
- Amy’s gone too far
Debbie makes an effort
Debbie still isn’t over to see Adam, but has at least made the effort to call Ian.
Ian tells her that Adam’s doing well – his physio and occupational folks are happy with him, though he is dizzy when he stands up. And still has a sore head. And is frustrated.
[Debbie] “He’s always regarded any illness of any kind being some sort of personal failure”
[Ian] “He is finding it very challenging being in one place all the time … He’s a man of action, he’s always got to be outside”
(though I was a bit disconcerted to hear Debbie and Ian agree that Adam doesn’t really like books. I always saw him and Ian wiling an evening away, listening to Radio 4 while reading their classics)
Later on, when Ian goes to see Adam at the hospital, he finds Adam a bit fed up that he isn’t getting out today as he hoped. He’ll only get out Monday.
Adam’s also fed up that he didn’t remember anything useful when the Police questioned him.
[Ian] “We’re just a bit fed up”
[Adam] “Don’t call me we!”
But there’s some good news. When Debbie called, it was also to say that she was (finally) coming over to see Adam.
Just for the weekend, mind.
Jennifer’s washing walls
[Alice] “I don’t know what the pickers put down on this table but it has certainly stuck”
With Adam in hospital, it’s down to Jennifer and Alice to sort the fruit pickers caravans out.
Funny thing that. For all of her graces, Jennifer gets stuck in when she’s needed.
Well, as long as it’s just for her husband and kids, and her farm. Tony is very much excepted.
Alice doesn’t sound like a fan of Carl
[Alice] “It was supposed to be a business trip, but Carl felt he could fit in a little pleasure as well”
Jennifer is a bit surprised to hear that Alice and Chris haven't had a foursome with Amy and Carl.
(dinner, not the ‘car keys in a bowl’ type)
But Alice explains that Amy is very much keeping Carl to herself.
[Alice] “It just seems a bit … exclusive”
Amy’s gone too far
The morning after the night before, Amy is still excited about moving in with Carl.
He’s sounding not so sure.
[Alice] “It would be fantastic. I could meet your family. Your grandmother”
(yup, that’s what every man wants to hear!)
[Carl] “For a start, do you really want to move out of a lovely big vicarage into my tiny flat?”
[Amy] “We’d be cosy”
[Carl] “I just don’t think you should rush into it”
But Amy’s not listening. She starts wittering on about them getting a bigger flat together. And how they can choose furniture together …
Here it comes …
[Carl] “You know what, beautiful Amy, I’m just wondering if this is the right time”
[Amy] “That this is to fast? But why? I love you, you love me, why wait?”
When Amy gets home, she immediately calls Alice to tell her the good news.
[Amy] “So, we’ve decided to make it permanent”
[Alice] “What!”
After Amy clarifies that she can Carl are moving on, not getting married:
[Alice] “I thought I was getting an invitation to the wedding”
[Amy] “No, well not yet anyway”
But Carl calls, so Amy hangs up on Alice to talk to him.
[Carl] “I needed to speak to you. There’s something I need to say to you, and the sooner the better … Amy, you are a lovely girl and we’ve had a lot of fun together … these past few days have been very special to me, I hope you can believe that …it isn’t the start of anything. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry, but it’s clear to me you want something I just can’t give to you …”
Carl tells Alice that he doesn’t want to move in with her. Not now, not ever.
[Carl] “I can’t give you the kind of commitment you deserve. I’m sorry Amy. It’s over.”
Ah well. Didn’t see that coming.
No mention of a wife, though.
The Archers Tuesday 1st May 2012

Queen of the May
Though it is technically May Day today, the May Day celebrations will be taking place during the May Bank holiday.
Lynda’s got the kids out rehearsing. And Susan’s reminiscing about May Days gone by.
[Susan] “Tracey was Queen of the May once … she looked so sweet. She was such a pretty little girl … Tracey’s hoping Chelsea’s getting picked this year … so would I, carry on the family tradition”
Though Susan reckons that Tilly and Molly Button will be serious competition for Chelsea. Especially as they seem to be favourites of Lynda. Susan also thinks that Chelsea is “not as graceful as her mum”.
Anyhoo, Brad is also taking part in the rehearsals.
[Susan] “I’m not sure Brad’s much of an asset”
(blimey, Susan’s hardly a one-woman cheer squad for her sister’s kids!)
Tracey can’t get a job because of Tracey
So thinks Susan.
(she really is on a downer on Tracey and her brood tonight)
Seems Tracey has had a couple of interviews, but no actual job as yet.
[Pat] “What you think the problem is?”
[Susan] “Well, Tracey … I’m just facing facts Pat. Her experience and qualifications look okay on paper, but then when she turns up …”
[Pat] “That’s a bit harsh, she was a pretty little may girl a moment ago”
[Susan] “She changed …. She’s just a bit full on”
Susan also thinks that Tracey’s lack of skill on a computer is holding her back.
Aha … do we foresee harry helping Tracey out …?
(if Harry ever decides to speak again)
Tom has patience with Tony
(I know! I never thought I’d be able to type that)
Tony’s also been having a steep learning curve with computers. And he’s still feeling guilty that he’s not doing the milking.
But Tom’s being incredible soothing and patient with him. Tom’s even sounding like he accepts Tony will be running the office side of the business.
Though Tom does check up on the work Tony had done when he’d been left alone. Tony returns to find Tom doing the checking – to find that he hadn’t been saving as he’d been working. Tony’s very upset, and is angry that he’s wasted everyone’s time.
[Tom] “Not thing. It’s all good practice”
[Tony] “I’m just a dinosaur, aren’t I. With about as much brain”
[Tom] “We all have our areas of expertise. Look how often I have to ask you about the livestock … I bet you never do it again!”
And Tom changes the settings to make sure the software does an automatic save more often.
[Tom] “Come on, don’t give up dad. Please”
And he really sounded like he meant it.
Mark this day: Tom showed signs of being a human being with feelings and empathy.
Adam’s speaking sentences
And is out of intensive care.
[Jennifer] “Tomorrow they say he can have a cup of tea”
Jennifer’s still worried every time he falls asleep. And she’s also concerned that he might have lasting damage. As Brian did (for a bit).
Time will tell, I suppose.
Susan doesn’t want to offend the extended family
She and Pat were discussing the Super Dairy.
Pat reckons the fight isn’t over yet. She and her anti-Super Dairy friends are regrouping, to see if they can still put in objections about the planning and the like.
Susan most certainly doesn’t belong to the anti-brigade.
[Susan] “We’ve got family connections to the Aldridge’s now … I have to be very careful, I wouldn’t want to embarrass Christopher”
As Pat points out, she also has connections to the Aldridges …
Actually, we haven’t had to suffer the embarrassment of a Carter/Aldridge social evening for a while, come to think of it.
Brian really cares for quiche
Now that Adam is awake and talking, Brian’s glad that everything back to normal (!) and that he’d getting fed properly.
[Brian] “Homemade quiche with a proper salad dressing”
Priorities, Brian style!
Thinking about the farm, he thinks they’ll need to get someone else in to help. So he’s going to ask Felpersham University for a recommendation. (Pip?)
[Brian] “Adam will want to know that his precious strawberry pickers are being looked after”
The Archers Monday 30th April 2012
- Debbie puts work first

Debbie puts work first
[Jennifer] “Oh and that’s more important, of course”
Jennifer’s leathering Debbie by phone for not flying over to see (the still unconscious) Adam.
Though Debbie claims she is thinking of them all, she can’t leave her work.
Despite her brother being critical. Despite Brian badly needing help to run Home Farm. Despite Jennifer pleading with her to be there.
[Debbie] “There’s no good trying to make me feel guilty, but I can’t come”
Though Debbie reckons she has good reason. Her deputy’s wife has done into premature labour, so there’s no-one to take over. And she reckons it’s a critical week for negotiations they’re having with the Hungarian government over land that they lease.
[Jennifer] “It’s Adam you see, darling, I keep thinking maybe if he just heard your voice …”
I don’t buy it, Debbie.
Surely there’s nothing that should be big enough to keep you away from your brother, and rest of family, in such a dire situation?
What if Amy’s happy to be a mistress?
About Carl being married.
Though it’s starting to get complicated …
First off, Usha is basing her knowledge of Carl being married on what Annabelle told her.
So, in my humble opinion, this could all be a red herring.
Ruth suggests to Usha that she should talk to Alan. But Usha thinks she should actually talk to Amy first.
[Ruth] “Are you sure that’s the right way around?”
[Usha] “At first I was sure Amy doesn’t know about this … but suppose she does … suppose she knows Carl’s married?”
Ruth can’t believe that Amy would be with Carl if she knew that he was married, but Usha thinks love conquers all. Especially as this is the first time Amy has been in love.
[Usha] “And she’s so inexperienced”
[Ruth] “And so happy”
[Usha] “I just keeping thinking Ruth … who could do that to his partner … I could no more do that to Alan than, I could fly …”
[Ruth, sounding sheepish] “No …”
[Usha, only now remembering about Sam] “Oh Ruth, I’m so sorry!”
[Ruth] “Don’t say it was different, what I did. You kid yourself that you want it so much, it must be alright”
If Amy does know, Usha thinks it’ll also be because Carl will have done the ‘my wife doesn’t understand me’ line.
[Ruth] “I’m not in a position to cast the first stone at Amy, no matter what she’s done”
[Usha] “And I’m not. It’s Alan I’m worried about … he'd be so bitterly disappointed”
[Ruth] “Do you think so? I thought he was so liberal in his views”
Only so far, it would seem. Usha reckons Alan will blame himself if Amy is happy to be with a man who is already married. He will think he’s failed.
So – upshot if that Usha needs to talk to Amy first to find out if Amy does know, before she says anything to Alan that will upset him.
The mention of caravans wakes Adam up
As Jennifer talks to the (still unconscious) about everything the needs to do on the farm – spraying, walking the fields to start the seasons plans, getting the caravans ready for the fruit pickers …
[Jennifer] “Adam? Adam, can you hear me … nurse!”
Next we hear Ian shouting at someone to get a move on with the vegetables (one assumes he’s back at work). He takes a call from Jennifer.
[Jennifer] “Don’t worry … its good news … I was talking to him and I saw his eyelids flutter … he responded”
Having his hair done makes Adam speak
As Ian is tidying Adam’s hair so he can look respectable when he wakes up proper (seems the nurse doesn’t do it the way Adam likes it), Adam makes a grunt.
Then wakes.
[Adam] “Ian … where … throat sore … hospital, why … how long … go on …. Go on, my hair, nice …”
Jennifer comes back to see Adam fully awake (with an obviously delighted Ian), and plays Adam a voice message that Debbie recorded for him.
Welcome back Adam!
(Shame on you, Debbie. Far too little. Far too late)

- It’s not normal, Adam being still
No change
Adam isn’t any better. He isn’t any worse. And he still hasn’t woken up.
Jennifer’s worried that the pressure in his brain hasn’t lessened:
[Jennifer] “The longer it stays high …”
Oh dear.
The family gather
Alice and Jennifer are at the hospital. Peggy and Lilian are on their way. Though they are a bit worried about how Peggy will cope:
[Alice] “She’s strong, and Aunty Lilian won’t be lost for words”
And what of Debbie and Kate?
[Jennifer] “Kate, bless her, she’d have got on the next plan if I’d let her!”
[Alice] “Well that’s Kate … Debbie likes to do things properly”
Eh? What does that mean? Debbie can only come and see her very seriously hurt brother if she has time to pack. book the right seats on the plane and leave copious notes for the business to carry on without her?
Seriously?
If so, why would Alice defend that?
[Jennifer] “It would be awful if …”
[Ian] “She didn’t get here in time … we just don’t know, do we. That’s the worst thing. We don’t know how he is”
Alan has announced it is May
[Alan] “There it was, Mike struggling to put up the maypole on the green. Proof positive”
We believe you!
Carl pops round
Just as Usha seemed to be about to talk to Alan about Carl (possibly being married), Amy bursts in to say that Carl is going to visit, to take her out. Which is a nice surprise for her as he had been planning to spend the whole weekend with his nan (!).
He’s brought flowers for Usha, and Alan’s favourite wine. Which he’d remembered after Amy had only mentioned it once. Seems he has a great memory.
[Usha] “That must be very useful … in your work”
(ahem!)
She’s on to you, matey.
It’s not normal, Adam being still
Ian’s used to Adam being a bit of a mover in bed … he normally has to keep pulling the duvet back over them during the night.
[Ian] “He seems to put as much energy into sleeping as he does to everything else …”
So, seeing Adam lying so still is worrying. Though Jennifer thinks Adam is working hard as he lies there, fighting.
[Ian] “We need you back”

Ian and Adam
[Ian] “I’ve got to hand it to you love, you’ve got us all worried, even Brian. If you were looking for a way to take his eye off the ball with the dairy, this is a cracker”
Adam is still unconscious.
So Ian’s sitting next to him in the hospital, talking “rubbish”.
[Ian] “I’m hoping he’ll get so annoyed he’ll wake up and tell me to shut it! …It’s the same thing over and over. That I love him. That I want him to come back. If he’d just stir. Seeing him lying like this …”
On the robbers who hurt Adam so badly:
[Ian] “Deliberate, mindless, brutal …”
(when they’re found, just put them into a room with Ian and a few of his kitchen knives)
[Jennifer] “But I don’t care what happens to them, as long as he wakes up”
(later on, David has been able to identify them from Police mug shots. After all they did, as David kept repeating, also (allegedly) try to run him over)
Ian’s also refusing to leave Adam’s side to get some sleep.
[Ian] “I want to be here when Adam wakes up. That must be soon,. Mustn’t it. It must!”
Later speaking to Alan:
[Ian] “This is going to sound really selfish Alan, but no one has ever loved me like Adam has. He’s changed my life. I love him so much. If he doesn’t wake up, Alan, I don’t know what I’m going to do”
As Ian finally accepts that he should get some sleep:
[Ian] “It means you can stay asleep a bit longer, which seems to be what you want … it’s more than a day since we last spoke, and that wasn’t much of a conversation … you’re always such a grump in the morning. I mean I know I’m always telling you it’s because you don’t get enough sleep, but seriously, this is overdoing it so, when I get back sleeping beauty, I want you back and as grumpy as ever …”

Jennifer’s third head trauma
She’s really not having much luck. Brian twice (I’d forgotten about the momentary epilepsy), and now her son.
David’s third death?
(oh I do hope not)
Jethro. Nigel. Now Adam.
*shudder*
[Ruth] “It must have been so awful for him finding Adam. As if Nigel wasn’t enough for one life time”
Alan’s home
And wasn’t Usha pleased to see him!
Though the first thing he asks about is what’s the gossip:
[Usha] “I don’t think your retreats done you any good. It hasn’t purified your thoughts!”
[Alan] “It’s made me appreciate the variety and richness of the community I live in …”
Just as Usha is about to talk to him about what she’s discovered about Carl (being married, we assume), Ruth calls.
Ruth’s worried for David (so needs a sympathetic ear) and also wants to tell Alan about Adam, so that he can offer his support (which he does).
Ruth later offers Usha her supportive ear if she ever needs it. But Usha’s not for offloading about Carl. Not right yet.
Debbie isn’t home
Jennifer was saying that Debbie was “frantic”, but couldn’t get away.
Huh!
Work or brother?!?
Debbie really has changed into quite an awful person.

David’s first on the scene (again)
Adam called David to say that a bloke called Jeff had called him (still with me?) to tell him that a truck and van with a low loader had been seen near the Home Farm poly tunnels.
With Brian out on the razzle (well, at dinner) with Jennifer, Adam’s on his tod. David agrees to meet him there to see what’s what, while the Police are on their way.
When David gets there, he can get Adam on his mobile. David eventually spots the van, which drives straight at him at a fair speed.
David tries to call Adam again. Still no answer.
Then he spots Adam. Hard to say where Adam was as David just starting shouting his name, and sounding very (very worried). There was no response from Adam. David makes a call:
[David] “I need an ambulance. Fast!”
When the ambulance arrives:
[David] “He’s my cousin, well, kind of …”
(eh? Dan begat Phil, Christine and Jack. Phil begat David, Kenton, Shula and Elizabeth. Jack begat Tony, Lilian and Jennifer. Paddy the cowman begat Adam by Jennifer)
The ambulance person tells David that while Adam has a nasty head wound, it’s at least stopped bleeding. Though Adam is unconscious.
Usha’s going to pick her moment
After spotting Carl with his wife (?!?) last night, Usha seems to be feeling her way into telling Amy, rather than just coming right out to tell her.
Usha asks Amy what Carl does when she’s on night shift.
[Amy] “Sits at home and pines for me, of course”
Usha’s also interested in why Carl spends most of his weekends with his, *ahem*, nan …
I think Usha’s tackling this the wrong way. Just tell her outright and be done. The messenger is better shot than hung slowly.
Brian bestows a gift to the village
Isn’t that generous of him.
Though his nose was a bit out of joint that not all of the BL Board were beyond themselves with excitement that the Super Dairy was going ahead (Annabelle seemingly had to twist arms to get Brian a vote of thanks), Brian was still in a rather good mood.
He made sure that the Board agreed to give “pass a gift of the field” to the village.

Even as Brian himself put it:
[Brian] “Small and half the board didn’t realise BL owned it”
Alice is “restricted”

At the hospital
David had called Brian and Jennifer, meeting them at the hospital.
[David] “Basically, someone seems to have knocked him on the head”
(and before anyone thinks that Felpersham Infirmary doesn’t treat civil partnerships seriously – they most certainly do. David didn’t call Ian as he didn’t have his number, but the hospital did. And they spoke to Ian about Adam first)
[Nurse] “We’re helping Adam with his breathing … that’s quite routine”
And they were about to give Adam a CT to see how serious the damage is. The nurse mentioned that a neurosurgeon will assess the scan.
Jennifer hears the word surgery. Then thinks brain surgery. Then panics.
Oh dear.
Should we all be panicking?
