Cars rather than brothers
Well chuffed with her new car (especially with its new car smell), Pip offers to take Josh and Ben to school.
And promises to be careful:
[Pip] “I will be … especially as it’s my car”
That’s right Pip. Priorities perfectly aligned.
Still wondering what type of car it is though …
What colour Usha. WHAT COLOUR????
There’s too much teasing going on from Ambridge residents these days.
They won’t tell us what car Pip has got.
And Usha seemingly has inside knowledge about what the ‘in’ colour is this season, but didn’t say what it is.
We can’t see you, by the way folks.
Usha’s book club
Will this be the new savour for book sales, taking the mantle from Richard & Judy?
[Usha] “It’s just want the cultural landscape in Ambridge needs”
Ahem.
Maybe not,
He who shall not be named
But Pip did.
Spotting that Elizabeth wasn’t exactly the life and soul, Pip thanked Elizabeth for her support during the whole … *spit* … Jude … *spit* … saga. …
I just had a horrible thought.
You don’t think He will return one day?
Elizabeth has some self-awareness
At last – Elizabeth mentions that she is making things difficult at Brookfield.
But, she didn’t mention that she was going to cease doing so.
Ah – completely self-obsessed. That’s more like our Elizabeth.
And not to forget the fact that times are still very tough for her (and will continue to be so for a fair while).
[Pip] “It must be so hard to have to pin a smile on and be happy”
[Elizabeth] “Just enjoy it. Enjoy it while you can”
Hmmm. There’s a cheery thought for an 18th!
The 18th that wasn’t really much ado
So Pip’s now legal, but her birthday wasn’t really up to much for an 18th.
Ach well. Pip seemed quietly satisfied.
She got a car. A nodding cow for the car (from Freddie and Lily). And some jewellery.
Plus she had a nice tea with her family.
Which is nothing to be sniffed at, considering it involved Jill’s pavlova.
The Archers: Josh is playing by himself … Pip wants to be a farmer … Patrick can play the piano … Fallon plans to be alone with Harry … Eddie’s crowing

- “His stance needs working on”
- Patrick to the Rescue!
- Pip, please don’t tell us what Jude taught you …

- Nathan, not any trouble? I very much doubt that Eddie
“Jamie’s gone all weird”
Sounds like David and Ruth might need to get Tom over to have a check on their yard lighting.
Josh was found by Eddie playing football by the floodlights.
And the poor wee mite had to play by himself.
[Josh] “Jamie’s gone all weir … hanging out with a rubbish crowd at school”
Eddie had a wee kick about with him, but sounded out of breath within a few minutes. Many days since Eddie was on a pitch, then:
[Eddie] “Wizard of the wing, I was called”
“His stance needs working on”
After Eddie had to wheeze off of the footy, Josh had to make do with helping his sister Pip work on the Hereford Steer that they’re putting into the primestock next week.
“Great topline … it’s his stance which needs working on”
We’ll take your work for it, Pip!
Patrick to the Rescue!
That Patrick’s an odd one.
He’s forever popping in and out of Ambridge, with seemingly no agenda (or staying power!).
But he’s not Lynda’s man of the moment (I wonder if Harry’s okay with that?!).
With Fallon now in the Panto, she doesn’t have time to pre-record the background music.
But along comes Patrick, as he’s apt to do. While Lynda was in a busy Ambridge Organics:
[Lynda] “In the hiatus, while Derek fletcher swung between yoghurt covered brazils and a blueberry flapjack …”
She got chatting to Patrick.
[Lynda] “If you ever get him on the lifecycle of the large butterfly he’ll open your eyes!”
Putting large butterflies to one side for the moment, Lynda also found out that Patrick achieved Grade 7 piano when he was a mere 17.
[Lynda] “The moment he revealed his talent … the poor man’s fate was sealed”
You said it Lynda!
Patrick and Harry in the same room? Just when I’d started to think they were one and the same …
Pip, please don’t tell us what Jude taught you …
(*shudder*)
No – it’s okay – all Pip said to Josh was that
“At least I learnt one thing from Jude … find something you're good at and stick to it – that’s what he was so useless at”
Pip looks like she’s considering staying out at Brookfield as a farmer.
[Josh] “So you going to stay here all your life?”
Of course, that all depends on whether Brookfield can manage to support adult Pip rather than Pip as one of David and Ruth’s kids.
But Pip has a cunning plan.
[Pip] “The market is changing all the time Josh, that’s why important find a good course to help us keep up”
Good planning Pip.
Wonder if we’ll be hearing similar arguments between Pip and David/Ruth as we currently hear between Tony and Tom.
I think that counted as Sabrina speaking
Okay, it was just a “meow”, and I reckon she also signed later on, but it was made by her vocal cords, therefore it was speech.
How utterly thrilling!
Sabrina’s treasure chest
[Lynda] “Prop yourself up a little more dear … that top’s a little lower cut than perhaps you realise”
[Lynda, later on] “Henchman are meant to be staring in covetously at the treasure chest!”
How desperate is Fallon!!!
That’s it.
Either Harry is asexual, gay or completely oblivious.
Did he not notice Fallon’s rather unsubtle efforts to get him to spend time alone with her?
The Panto is giving Fallon the perfect excuse to get 1-on-1 with Harry, but will he even react when she makes her move?
Nathan, not any trouble? I very much doubt that Eddie
Lynda is simply simpering over Eddie and Nathan’s revelatory panto performance this evening.
[Lynda] “your timing and teamwork was almost faultless … and I’ve never seen such sinister lurking … the sparkling chemistry you displayed this evening … tell me, what’s turned everything round?”
[Eddie] “We had a bot if a showdown earlier this week … he just needed taking a peg or two down … now that he accepts I’m top dog, we won't have any more trouble … I’m sure of that”
Hmmm. Speaking too soon, methinks.
The Archers: Jennifer wants Phoebe ... Kenton has a cunning plan (*groan*) ... Helen has good news
- Did Vicky cheat?
- Caught in the middle with Roy
- Yup. Kenton's about to screw it up for Nigel.
- Kenton didn't remember Helen was pregnant ... then offered her "innocent passion"
- "no harm in mutual appreciation"
- Helen's at a low risk
Did Vicky cheat?
I must have heard that wrong when Kirsty said to Jennifer that Vicky won one of the Flower and Produce Show categories by using a garden designer (which must've been after her cake collapsing last year).
But Jennifer didn't react.
I must have got that wrong.
Or Jennifer was too preoccupied buying food and trying to work out what Kate is actually studying (something to do with " post-disaster relief" and "project management". Ye Gods!)
Or, is it okay to use a professional in Ambridge?
That's certainly not the way it's done round here. Folks have been hounded out with pitchforks for less!
Caught in the middle with Roy
Kate hasn't even arrived in Ambridge, but there's already a to-do.
Jennifer has decided that it'd be a good idea for Phoebe to stay with Kate for a week, before Kate starts College and has less time on her hands.
While Roy didn't seem to happy about it, he wasn't half as vicious about it as Hayley.
You know how protective mums can be when it comes to their brood - and Hayley's no exception!
Poor Roy's trying to get the balance right between Phoebe having time with her biological mum, not upsetting her de facto mum and also not having to confront Kate's own mum!
Poor chap indeed.
"I don't want her [Phoebe] to think she shouldn't spend time with her mum"
"of course not ... but I'm her mum too! I'm not here to be replaced when Kate fancies being a parent"
Ouch. Try and get a fair compromise out of that one!
As Hayley said, we're all going to have months of this. Roy's plan is to muddle along as best he can, showing "willing" to Kate and Jennifer.
But that isn't going to pass muster with Hayley.
And, after all, can we really trust Kate to be a proper parent to Phoebe? Surely Kate will get her second wind (while minus other kids and husband), and party?
Thank goodness Jude isn't still around for Kate to stumble over. I think they have the same maturity levels.
Yup. Kenton's about to screw it up for Nigel.
As predicted, Nigel should have stood his ground in not letting Kenton 'help' him get Elizabeth out of Lower Loxley while he sets up her anniversary surprise.
Kenton's great plan is to pretend some bloke called Barry is an important entrepreneur (who Kirsty reckons will never pass for such) who needs to meet Elizabeth at the other side of Felpersham to talk about a booking (which Kirsty reckoned Elizabeth will never buy into as he'd surely need to see Lower Loxley).
Here we go again. I foresee one apologetic Nigel, one livid Elizabeth and one unrepentant Kenton.
Kenton didn't remember Helen was pregnant ..
... then offered her "innocent passion"
Upset that Kenton didn't even notice she was pregnant, let alone remembered she was (those Archers really stick together, don't they!), Helen was righteously angry when Kenton offered her a cocktail.
Moving onto non-alcoholic concoctions:
[Kenton] "I can highly recommend my innocent passion"
[Helen] "I'd rather you didn't"
ooh. Couldn't you just feel an icy wind blowing as Helen uttered that!
"no harm in mutual appreciation"
Seemingly in an "excitable mood", Kenton's cracking Jaxx's music up, and taking special care of 'the ladies'
At least being sensible in checking what Kirsty and Helen thought a particular young lady's age was (mid to late 30s), Kenton does seem to be bouncing merrily on the rebound train.
Let's just hope this Holly lady doesn't get a special surprise from Kenton for her birthday.
Not because it'd be wrong to do so (and it would hopefully put the final nail into his relationship with Kathy), but just the very thought of it ... yuk!
Helen's at a low risk
Which is a superb improvement from a low mood!
The tests show that the chances of Helen's baby having problems are small, so Helen can relax a wee bit.
And she's even made a new resolution:
"What will be, will be"
Boy oh boy, who'd have thought Helen would ever say such a thing! She's going to try and only worry about the stuff she can control, rather than that she can't.
What Helen thinks she can control is "eating properly" and rest.
Um ..
Is it just me, or is that exactly what Helen can't control?
Surely the baby will take care of her not having any rest - and Helen controlling her eating? Not her strongest point so far.
The Archers: The Snells take revenge on The Harris' ... Helen's tired ... Jill buys a vase
- Bless the Snells and their wicked ways

- Thank god for that!
Bless the Snells and their wicked ways
Catching the Harris' children in the dining room eating breakfast, Lynda and Robert realise that it the Harris kids, and not the Harris parents, who've been making such a mess in their bathroom and stealing toilet roll.
The kids should have been camping at Camp Grundy, but they've been sneaked back in to use the Snell's facilities. Which they haven't paid for.
That they're now eating their cereal is just not on.
Robert creates a cunning plan, which is basically overcharging for a packet lunch in lieu of the extra costs.
Naughty!
But wait - there's more!
Cereal will now be brought to their table rather than be self services.
And next time the Harris' try to book a room, the Snells will ... wait for it ... tell them they have no room! Even if they do have!!!
Jinks! Who would ever have thought that such a nice couple would stoop so low ...
Pip's back at College
And no one harassed her about Jude.
So now she just has to work really hard to catch-up.
Think she'll do a Corrie Tracey and not come down from her bedroom for a few years?
I can but live in hope.
Free the Pargetter One!
There's poor Freddie frantically worrying about having to go a boarding school that he'll now not be sent to.
Tell the wee lad! He deserves to have a panic free childhood.
A friend in need ... doesn't need Kirsty
What is Kirsty thinking?
Or is she just not thinking?!?
I find her a very strange lass at times. She obviously cares for Helen, but why did she (a) give Leon Helen's number and now (b) tell Tom things about Helen that Kirsty knows she won't be happy about.
And as for her behaviour with Kenton ...
Spilling all to Tom about Helen feeling tired, and having been a bit freaked out by having the tests, was (in a round about way) a good thing. At least it got Tom talking to Helen about her pregnancy.
But when you have to out a proviso like
"don't tell her i said this - she would hate it if she knew we were talking behind her back"
onto a conversation, you know you're doing something a tad disloyal.
Either way, this could mean more support for Helen - or more 'I told you so' from Tony (after Tom also inevitably blabs to him as well).
Not sure about having to hear the 'love in the room' between Tom and Helen though ...
Thank god for that!
The chiller cabinet recording book was found in time, the chiller was at the right temperature, the cookery demo was well attended and sold lots of books, and more veg box orders were taken.
Good.
Just like Helen, I couldn't sleep for worrying.
The Archers: Community planting … David outs Alice’s marriage into context
- Matt’s doing grand for his age
- Does that explain why Kathy is such a xxxx?
- An acre in a box
- “at least we got a working Horrobin with no criminal record, so far”
- Is anyone good at breakfast small talk?
- Party!
- Yes Kenton – you are just damned!
Matt’s doing grand for his age
63 on Saturday.
Good on you, me old mucker.
Does that explain why Kathy is such a xxxx?
She “quite fancies” some of the old folks’ trips out.
57 going on 82?
An acre in a box
That sounds like a lovely way to do some ‘community planting’.
Although, I am amazed they’ve managed to even find a wee strip of land to plant on. Between Council rules and reticent landowners, I’d have thought they’d have to do another round of guerrilla gardening to get anything down.
“at least we got a working Horrobin with no criminal record, so far”
You can always depend on Brian to find the positive side of anything (albeit sarcastically!).
And David should have given him something to think about. Chris is certainly no Jude!
Is anyone good at breakfast small talk?
Well, I know some folks are just bursting with happiness and energy first thing, but it’d hardly be easy for Chris to chat away at breakfast when (a) it is Brian and Jennifer he’s got to chat to, who are (b) fairly unhappy that he’s married their daughter and (c) they are blatantly snobs about his family.
Party!
Are you also getting the impression that this party is going to be quite a traditional English farce?
Alice is excited. Jennifer’s hoping it’ll go away. Susan is beside herself with glee. And Brian reckons that the more people invited, the more the ‘Horrobin quarter” will be “diluted”.
That’s got to spell trouble.
Yes Kenton – you are just damned!
If he does something, he’s shouted at. If he doesn’t, he’s shouted at.
But it’s hard to feel sorry for Kenton when he’s created at least half of this mess with Kathy
“I don’t even care”
I couldn’t have said it better myself
The Archers: Emma’s washing machine is broken … Jolene goes to pieces … Brenda’s cuffed … back to normal for David, Ruth and Pip
- Ed’s too busy to fix the washing machine
- Did Jolene sound a bit odd?
- Is it too good to be true? Is Pip indeed back?!?
- Come on – it was just a phone call to the Council!
- Is it too good to be true? Is Pip indeed back?!?
- Kirsty is getting on “alright” with Kenton
- “Charlotte’s friend Nigel brought a whole pineapple!”
Ed’s too busy to fix the washing machine
I think Vicky’s ‘bonny’ wee bull calves have much to answer for.
Did Jolene sound a bit odd?
I know Jolene’s very much not herself at the moment, for obvious reasons, but I thought there was a bit of an odd moment today when Jolene was trying to do more than just pretend everything was normal.
I’m probably reading too much into it, but it sounded like Jolene was trying to fool Lilian into thinking she was back to ‘normal’, rather than just placating her.
And there could be a big difference. Placating will be spotted a mile away – fooling just could end up as a disaster.
Is it too good to be true? Is Pip indeed back?!?
Ruth certainly seems to think that Pip is:
“Relaxed – and … well, … normal”
And you could almost taste David’s relief and glee:
“Not one mention of Jude. Let’s hope we never have to hear the name ‘Fizz’ again”
Come on – it was just a phone call to the Council!
“A bit of nifty research … got onto my contact … helped Lilian get one over matt … she took the credit for my research”
Get away with yourself Brenda!
Even if you do know someone in the Council, surely anyone could call the Council and find out the information you ‘researched’?
Or, am I giving Brenda no credit? Maybe she had to charm her way into information only normally to be released after months of a freedom of information request?
While Lilian was indeed delighted with Brenda at the time, she was back to cheeky (but very ladylike and subtle) digs at Brenda.
“Why don’t you Brenda [have another drink] … I’m sure you’ve earned it …”
“She’s shown a lot of promise”
Kirsty is getting on “alright” with Kenton
Which doesn’t quite suggest that Kenton’s lock-ins are a smokescreen for a passionate liaison.
Yet …
“Charlotte’s friend Nigel brought a whole pineapple!”
I did scoff, but Pip uttering such innocent excitement over a pineapple is far more preferable to her gnashing over Jude.
Hurrah to Pip! Hurrah to pineapples!
And wasn’t the wee exchange between David and Pip lovely and heat warming.
“You don’t need your beauty sleep”
[David to Pip]
Aw! Daddy’s finally free to be nice to his daughter without getting shouted at.
The Archers: Kathy and Kenton are still not talking … Brenda’s manages to do more than just coffee … Izzy tells Pip the truth .. Sid’s will is being read on Friday
- The cold front continues
- While Lilian’s away having boozy coffees …
- Pip still feels like an idiot
- Will there be any surprises in Sid’s will?
- “That’s just sick”
- Should a friend tell you your partner is a bad-un while you’re still going out with them?
The cold front continues
First Kathy won’t have anything to do with Kenton, now Kenton’s avoiding Kathy.
This will make for simply super birthday for poor Jamie.
Still, at least Josh is invited. And didn’t Kenton sound relieved that it wouldn’t just be the three of them.
Something is badly amiss when you need a young teenager to take the edge off.
While Lilian’s away having boozy coffees …
… Brenda actually makes herself useful.
The first bit of real tension between Matt and Lilian, over the new business, is starting to be apparent.
Apart from Matt hiring Brenda without Lilian having a say, it’s becoming obvious that Matt’s approach to life (business first) is not sitting well with Lilian’s priority of friends and family.
She’s quite right to put Jolene before her work, but it’s not the best approach to a new business. Nor to working with Matt. Leaving him to his own devices could lead to big trouble (yet again!).
And while Lilian’s away working at The Bull, Brenda’s picking up the slack.
How long before Matt makes Brenda swear secrecy over a dodgy deal, odd phone calls, forging Lilian’s signature?
Pip still feels like an idiot
And so she should.
Daft wee madam that she is.
Will there be any surprises in Sid’s will?
Let’s hope not, for Jolene’s sake.
“That’s just sick”
It’s odd, but I can’t understand what Izzy sees in Pip as a mate – just as I couldn’t understand what Pip saw in Jude.
Pip’s lucky to have her, despite doing her best to insult Izzy over working in a supermarket.
And what was Pip thinking? Why on earth did she go to Jude’s flat? Checking his Facebook profile was daft, but understandable – going to his flat was just masochistic.
Still, if you go looking for a truth, you’re bound to find it at some point.
I wasn’t sure why she was so upset over her shampoo and toothbrush being dumped, and unless the CD was a particularly specially expensive one, that’s really no big deal either (and anyway – I didn’t think teenagers bought CDs anymore. Isn’t it all iTunes?).
“He didn’t care”
“Is this what he thinks of me? Rubbish?”
Yup indeed Pip.
Keep repeating it until it really sinks in (though preferably when you’re not on-air, as all this ‘I’m stupid’ and constant ‘revelations’ that Jude was a rotter is getting a bit tedious).
Should a friend tell you your partner is a bad-un while you’re still going out with them?
It’s a tough one, and Izzy did the atypical thing of saying ‘I never liked him anyway’ after the fact. She could have saved us all a lot of earache if she told Pip (and managed to convince her) when she first met Jude.
At least someone has sat Pip down and told her that Jude was never ‘all that’ to begin with.
And also told her that she was letting Jude take over her life.
Can we have the farming-lass Pip back now? Please?
The Archers: Jamie’s not a happy bunny … Jude advertises his single status
- Jamie simply can’t take it any more
- Stain on her pink top?
- The pitfalls of Facebook
- Have you got your preserving sugar in?
- Lord Wimsey, Agatha Christie and The Archers
Jamie simply can’t take it any more
Spotting the huge cracks in Kenton and Kathy’s relationship, poor Jamie’s got a lot to try and cope with.
Kathy is seemingly smothering him, so her prattling on about his birthday drove him to an abrupt round of Mr Angry.
She really should have spotted that his birthday was going to be a touchy subject this year, even though she is trying to make it all ‘normal’ for him.
“All I want for my birthday is my dad back”
You poor, poor wee man.
Stain on her pink top?
Monica Lewinsky, was the first thing I thought of.
Well, it that was all Jude managed to do with Pip, we should be grateful.
The rumours that Pip will turn out to be pregnant just make me queasy.
The pitfalls of Facebook
In the good old days, all you had to do was not go to places where you knew they were, walk down their street and make sure you dumped the bit of paper with their number on it.
In the last few years, you’ve also had to delete their number from your mobile.
Now, if you split up with someone, it’s also advisable to remove them as a friend from your Facebook profile.
Yikes!
I don’t think Jude could ever do anything else that’d surprise me (apart from turning out to actually be quite a nice chap, who was just going through a difficult patch).
What an utter kick in the teeth to Pip though! Changes his status to single – created a photo album called “Freedom”- and saying that he’s “single and loving it”.
None of that would have been to hurt Pip. Jude just doesn’t even care about what she thinks. He’s too busy ‘partying’.
Hopefully this will be another blooming-good-reason for Pip to step away from moping around after him.
“Didn’t he think I might see the photos or care … the truth is he never cared about me at all”
There you go Pip! Keep that as your morning mantra.
Now get back to College (humiliating or not), get your exams done and dusted, off to Agricultural College – all to make sure you’re next in line for Brookfield. After all, Josh is quite interested in all that farming malarkey, don’t you know.
Have you got your preserving sugar in?
You’d better hurry up, if not.
When Jill decrees that the time is nigh, you know that you’d better get in there quickly.
Lord Wimsey, Agatha Christie and The Archers
Oh I am a deliriously happy bunny.
(and I know. I should get out more …)
Jamie makes Kathy go to Jaxx … Pip’s back at Brookfield
- So Brenda’s staring work for Lilian next week, is she?!?
- “Never a dull moment with my lot” … and that’s just the half of it!
- It’s takes a boy to make the adults grow-up
- Haven’t we all missed Pip?
- “Why couldn’t I see him for what he really was?”
- Kenton and Kirsty?
- “Your mum”????
- “As if he’s just the shell of the real man when he’s with me”
So Brenda’s staring work for Lilian next week, is she?!?
Hmmm. Not sure whether that was Pat is wishful thinking, or whether Brenda’s telling a few white lies again, but I thought it was firmly Matt who hired her?
Or is this all Tom, in attempt to hide the fact that Matt’s wormed his way back into their lives?
“Never a dull moment with my lot” … and that’s just the half of it!
Oh my. If pat thinks her lot are interesting at the moment, just wait until everyone’s told about Helen’s pregnancy.
It’ll be the talk of the village.
It’s takes a boy to make the adults grow-up
Atta boy Jamie!
Kathy finally steps foot in Jaxx because Jamie bullies/guilt trips her into going.
While I utterly applaud his common sense (it is utter rubbish that Kathy hasn’t been in), I did feel it was a bit of a one-sided view of what’s going on between Kenton and Kathy.
“No wonder he’s fed up … own partner can’t be bothered to see how it has changed … you should be interested …”
Too true that Kathy has been a “bit rubbish” in not going herself, but what about Kenton’s utter lack of interest in Kathy? Or, until recently, Jamie (since Sid died)?
Maybe Jamie doesn’t see it that way. He has said that Kathy’s been too much for him, so maybe (just maybe) Kenton’s laid back (to the point of disappearing out the door) approach has been right.
Haven’t we all missed Pip?
Well I indeed have.
Pip is more than welcome back to the fold. Fizz can stay as far away as Jude.
Hurrah to a Pip who knows about cow’s gait!
“Why couldn’t I see him for what he really was?”
That’s just what we’ve all been wondering, Pip, since you first met Jude.
It’s been a long time coming, but hopefully you won’t forget.
And sorry to be a tad horrible, but you should indeed feel very stupid. After all you’ve put us through …
Kenton and Kirsty?
Oh how horrid!
Kenton’s flirty is very old-dad style, and I’ve always seen Kirsty as a bit of a hipster.
Mind you, unless she and Patrick become more than friends (unless Helen gets there first, via Tony), there isn’t much of a rush for the young lady’s hand.
And isn’t it about time we had an affair.
But no showers. Or long soliloquies to hair. Please.
“Your mum”????
“I spare the time for a guided tour for your mum”
Now I know that some couples fall into that thing of calling each other ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ to their kids – but wasn’t that a bit strange of Kenton to refer to Kathy as ‘your mum’ to Jamie?
May I’m just getting paranoid, but it felt a tad distant of him.
“As if he’s just the shell of the real man when he’s with me”
So Kathy leans on Pat, telling her that she’s realised how far apart her and Kenton are.
It might just be that she saw him flirting with Kirsty, but she has a good point that he seems to be the one who’s now lifting Jamie out of his stupor … and that she was wrong and vindictive about Sid’s ashes … and that Kenton seems to have far less of a ‘good time’ when she’s around.
Part of me knows she’s not perfect, but a larger part of me cannot get away from the fact that Kenton has been a rotter since Sid died. Infact, he’s had little time for Kathy and Jamie since he met Jim, and the whole ‘new look’ Jaxx become a proper idea.
Kenton is going through a very public mid-life crises, whereas Kathy’s happy with her nest.
How long before it cracks wide open? A week? A Month? Certainly can’t outlast the year.
The Archers: Elizabeth puts Pip’s problems into context … Brian strikes a deal
- Has the penny dropped for Pip?
- The battle of Hastings part 2
- Blast from Elizabeth’s past
- Matt Crawford: the social housing lord
Has the penny dropped for Pip?
We’re all expecting Pip’s moping over Jude to last for months, but maybe (just maybe) she might come out of this sooner than expected.
While she was at first checking her phone in case he called (as if he ever did when they were going out), and then rambling out about they could’ve sorted everything out if they’d talked, she later seemed to finally get it.
“He wasn’t going to ring me … he was going to America without saying anything … he didn’t love me at all, not like I loved him”
And all it took was Elizabeth asking Pip the right questions.
“How did he sound?”
“Is that the impression he gave you?”
Enough to make Pip have a proper look at what Jude was like, and realise that this wasn’t about Jude feeling not trusted – it was simply that he didn’t care.
In saying all of that – will a remarkably quick recovery from Pip be a red herring? Will the peace be broken by a return from Jude?
The battle of Hastings part 2
Brian just never takes no for an answer. Though, that’s probably why he’s got so many pennies in the bank …
So Farmer Hastings doesn’t want to sell his land, yet all it took was Brian talking to him about his baler.
Quick chat later about farm succession, and Brian had Hastings believing that selling his land is the best move for all and every.
Still waiting for Matt to scupper it all …
Blast from Elizabeth’s past
Elizabeth’s run-in with Cameron Fraser was before my time, but I have read about it. How wonderful to hear it first-hand!
Of course, Jude is no Cameron (Jude hasn’t got the intelligence or class). Whereas Cameron was:
“Charming, attractive, well off mature”
Jude was … well … a manboy.
Whereas Cameron made Elizabeth feel
“Valued, important, special”
and he told Elizabeth that he’d
“Finally found a woman share thoughts with”
All Jude had to say about Pip was that she was
“fun and clever”
In the face of being told Elizabeth’s experiences (pregnant, dumped at a service station, abortion), Pip’s quite right to “feel so pathetic”
Matt Crawford: the social housing lord
Was it just me, or did Brian miss the point about Matt’s alleged conversion to understanding the “urgent need for affordable accommodation”?
From what I’ve gathered about such matters, isn’t it within a developer’s interest to include social housing elements in a new project, so that it becomes more palatable for planning permission?
Isn’t that what Tesco does? Build a huge shopping centre, but offset it by knocking up a few cheap flats?
The Archers: Jude’s on his way … Pip’s devastated … Susan catches Joe out .. Amy’s back at the weekend
- “It’s been great … fantastic. You’re a lovely girl. We’ve had some laughs, but nothing lasts forever”
- Problems ahoy for Chris and Alice?
- Joe takes the biscuit
- Elizabeth gets her moment
- “I’d like to slap his smug face meself”
“It’s been great … fantastic. You’re a lovely girl. We’ve had some laughs, but nothing lasts forever”
Goodness me, how happy were you to hear Jude utter those last few words of utter twaddle?!?
Hurrah and hooray! He’s gone (and hopefully not just for a wee while).
True to form, Jude behaves like an utter wanker, and dumps Pip by phone. But only because she called him. And only 30 minutes before he was about to get on his flight to New York.
“It was fun, now it’s all a bit intense”
“That was sweet, but I never asked you to”
(on Pip telling him she’d given up everything for him)
Pip was seemingly with him the day before, but he’s too much of a coward to tell her face-to-face. He could also have spoken up many times when they were discussing their trip, when Pip left college, when Pip was trying to get him to Brookfield … what a rotter!
His attitude as he was dumping her was so cold and blasé, it makes you wonder if he’s not actually a bit damaged. Either that, or Pip never meant anything to him apart from a ‘good time’.
Jude is right about something though:
“There’s a world out there Fizz – time to move on”
Please do Pip. I don’t think I can cope with you moping around for months, and months, and months …
Though
“Maybe he’ll miss me when he’s stuck in New York”
Hardly suggests that Pip has managed to twig that Jude’s just a complete arse.
This ain’t over yet.
Problems ahoy for Chris and Alice?
Just a thought.
Jennifer’s recent noises about not thinking Chris as good enough for Alice, now Susan’s assertion that she’s so chuffed about them being together – does make me wonder if the whole ‘village lad, rich girl’ is about to erupt.
“Imagine my Christopher having such a glamorous holiday, and such a glamorous girlfriend”
Wouldn’t Jennifer be mortified to hear such talk.
Joe takes the biscuit
So that’s what Joe was up to – hiding stock so that he could take it home once it was out of date.
Cheeky!
Isn’t it also funny that Joe (and Eddie) often justify their scams through saying something how it’ll be nice for Clarrie?
Still, Susan has the right approach. Just appropriate Joe’s ill-gotten gains for herself. *snort*
Elizabeth gets her moment
To be fair, all of Elizabeth’s interrupting into Pip/David/Ruth’s life has come good eventually.
She’s the perfect person for Pip to sob to about Jude.
“Unforgiveable … cruel”
Quite right. But without saying ‘I told you so’ (which I’m sure David wouldn’t have been able to avoid!).
“I’d like to slap his smug face meself”
“So that’s that then”
“He’s out of our lives – thank god – thank goodness dumped her here”
“What a first class …”
David and Ruth finally see the back of Jude, but obviously at the cost of their “poor little girl”.
Ah well. Maybe Pip can start to grow up now.
The Archers: Jolene’s finding ‘normality’ a bit difficult … Kenton distances himself from Kathy … David and Ruth want their girl back … Lilian simply adores Jaxx
- Aw … poor Jolene
- Surely that means separate beds?
- Kathy should’ve admitted it
- “Give Tom credit”
- That’s why Pip’s a snob about supermarkets …
- Jaxx must be alright if Lilian approves
- Reasons or excuses Kenton?
- David’s got the measure of Jude
Aw … poor Jolene
I’m getting more and more upset for Jolene. Way much more so than I’ve felt for Sid actually dying.
She’s doing that ‘we all need to get back to normal’ thing, where all that’ll end up happening is her breaking down. She’s just not ready to cope.
Still, with Lilian on hand, backed up the rest of the Ambridge crew, here’s hoping she’s in safe hands.
Surely that means separate beds?
Maybe I’m reading too much into this – but it sounded like Kathy and Kenton have separate rooms.
Not that I’m judging a relationship by the sleeping arrangements, but it doesn’t necessarily bode well.
Even a cuddle goes a long way to repairing damage done during the day.
Kathy should’ve admitted it
Even more telling is that Kathy can admit to Tony that she was wrong over shutting Kenton out of the ashes scattering – but she can’t admit it to Kenton.
What is she thinking?
“He really needed you … I wish you’d been there Kenton”
Hmmm. You forgot to say ‘I’m sorry it was my fault that you weren’t’
Kenton’s response of
“too late now, isn’t it”
Could mean a whole lot more than just the ashes.
That Kenton also wasn’t willing to talk to Kathy about her stopping him for supporting Jamie at the ashes – and his “don’t wait up” – would seem to signify that he and Kathy are either in big trouble, or are indeed over already.
Dearie me. Kenton on the pull, Kathy in ‘woe is me’ overdrive. How will we cope?!?
“Give Tom credit”
Never!
Especially when he’s actually taking the credit for an idea someone else created.
You simply aren’t going to get away with your veal and ham pie, Tom. Vicky doesn’t strike me as a lady to underestimate …
That’s why Pip’s a snob about supermarkets …
… she gets it from her parents.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m well aware that few people have an ambition of working in a supermarket, but it’s also a bit much to dismiss such work as being ‘boring’.
Then again, what can you expect of David and Ruth when they have such high expectations for their ‘girl’ Just a shame they have to drag everyone else down around her.
They are right that half day training, while the supermarket is ‘processing’ Pip’s application is a bit sneaky. Many moons ago, I went for a job in a chip shop where I had to work for 4 hours one night, then they wanted me to come back the next to do the same again, before they’d say whether I had got the job or night.
It was worth it though. One hour in, I still couldn’t fold the paper round the suppers.
So maybe it’s worth Pip trying out the training session, to see if she can cope? After all, she’s not exactly been dazzling in her academic pursuits. Maybe a more ‘hands on’, structured career path would be better.
Jaxx must be alright if Lilian approves
Though her cred slipped a bit when she told Kenton to ‘surprise’ her, then pointed out she was driving.
Mocktails do not make a lush.
Reasons or excuses Kenton?
I’m still not entirely convinced, but maybe it’s true that Kenton hasn’t just been throwing himself in to Jaxx to avoid Kathy and Jamie.
Maybe it really just his way of coping.
I did feel for him finally discovering
“what [he] wants to be when [he] grows up”
And his sadness about Kathy not understanding was palpable.
More signs that he finally gets that Jamie needs him was his call to Jamie to apologise for not being at the ashes, even though that wasn’t his fault.
David’s got the measure of Jude
“He’s got no intention of coming round”
“He’s either Fobbing us off, or couldn’t give a damn”
A bit of both, methinks.
Pay him to go away, shoot him, run him over with a tractor … whatever it takes David. We won’t tell anyone.
The Archers: Jude isn’t very supportive … Jolene’s back …and so is Lynda …Pip auctions her life ... Eddie gets ripped off
- Jude’s uncle is going to hospital.
- One mug … *sniff*
- Where was Jazzer to wave Harry goodbye?
- Pip up for auction
- Hurrah! It’s Lynda!
- “She must have had some kind of gift. She saw Eddie a mile off”
- Do I sense an Agatha Christie homage?
- Jokes about a new meaning to ‘The Ashes’ aside …
- Izzy - just tell Pip to ‘do one’
Jude’s uncle is going to hospital.
Does that sound like a wee white lie, or not?
Considering he’s more concerned about his first coffee of the morning, rather than wishing Pip could luck with the job hunt. That’ll help pay for the trip. Which he seemingly should want her to go on (according to Pip).
Do we detect that Jude would rather avoid the conference/confrontation with David and Ruth?
No surprises these, I suppose, and Pip (as per) is utterly oblivious to Jude’s lukewarm attitude.
So, as Pip plans to show her parents just:
“how serious we are”
Jude’s started digging his escape tunnel.
One mug … *sniff*
I’ve not been that upset over Sid’s death, but tonight had a very poignant moment.
So simple. Jolene’s making tea, and automatically starts to ask Sid if he wants one.
Then she realises she’ll only ever need one mug.
Oh so sad.
Where was Jazzer to wave Harry goodbye?
It’s not like Jazzer to miss Harry moving out of the Bull.
Surely a great opportunity to jeer, take the mick, make sure he didn’t leave anything behind …
Then again, we all missed Harry moving out.
Bit of a damp squib?
Pip up for auction
While we’re all been thinking of ways to get rid of Jude and Pip, we were missing a trick.
Auction sites!
“Two healthy ‘young’ people, under the age of 30 (we think), one willing to work hard, the other might be able to fix your website. If he can be bothered. Both house trained and partially educated.”
That must be worth at least a reserve of a few pounds.
Of course, it’s only a matter of time before David and Ruth notice that Pip’s sold jewellery that they gave her for Christmas.
Queue shouting argument.
Hurrah! It’s Lynda!
Lovely to have Lynda back.
I eve did a wee ‘whoop’ when she launched back into the-Ambridge-we-can-hear with:
“It makes such a difference, Robert - being able to enjoy lunch al fresco”
And it wouldn’t be fair to not also welcome back Robert. Poor man gets sidelined at the best of times …
“She must have had some kind of gift. She saw Eddie a mile off”
So Felpersham Fox turned out to be “Felpersham Lead Balloon”.
Eddie loses his money, and Mystic Jodie gets away with a gallon of cider plus free camping.
Not so bad after all. Clarrie might only fall out with Eddie for a few days, rather than weeks!
Do I sense an Agatha Christie homage?
There has been recent the talk of a ‘big’ happening in January 2011 – rumoured to be a murder (which I personally think is very remiss of the BBC. If they know an Ambridge resident is going to be murdered, surely they should put a stop to it. Aiding and abetting?).
But, Lynda and Robert were talking about staging a ‘whodunit trail’ at the village fair.
Seemingly, at another village fair, the
“body by the lake created a huge sensation”
and there was also some sort of
“business by the boat house”
Surely that’s the plot line of Dead Man’s Folly by Agatha Christie?
Only, they’d better beware – in Dead Man’s Folly, the girl cast as the murder victim is found to have actually been murdered for real.
Will the Ambridge murdered take their chance to strike early?
Jokes about a new meaning to ‘The Ashes’ aside …
Jolene’s decided to scatter Sid’s ashes on the cricket ground this Sunday.
Interesting that her original list of folks who’d need to be there included herself, Fallon, Jamie and Tony.
But no Kathy.
Fallon had to point out that Jamie would want Kathy and Kenton there.
Will Kenton turn up this time?
Izzy - just tell Pip to ‘do one’
What a horrid little snob Pip is.
I’d forgive her for looking down on a job in a supermarket because of principles about local producers, but Pip simply thinks that kind of work is beneath her.
And to say all she did in front of her ‘friend’ Izzy! Who does work in a supermarket.
Little madam!
It was a different story when Pip first wanted to leave College to join Izzy and co. at the supermarket. Now that Pip thinks she’s going travelling, she’ll only demean herself to work there for a few weeks.
Seriously Izzy. Don’t help Pip get that job. She doesn’t deserve it.
Jamie’s not doing much better, Kathy talks to Pat … Elizabeth comes clean to Ruth
- No more secrets in the Archer clan
- Jude’s described as …
- “Talking just a big waste of time – can’t change anything”
- Kenton doesn’t notice, Kathy shouldn’t have to tell him
- Yes Kenton – a trip to NZ is just what Kathy and Jamie need
No more secrets in the Archer clan
Well, one side of it anyway. For now.
Elizabeth’s told Ruth about knowing Pip had missed that exam, and that Pip also asked for more hours at Lower Loxley.
Well Elizabeth, that really wasn’t that dramatic, was it?
Ruth was rightly annoyed that she hadn’t told them before, but I think she was a wee bit off in saying that Elizabeth should’ve come to her when David wouldn’t listen. It’s not exactly Elizabeth’s fault that David can be a tad touchy when it comes to his parenting skills.
Though I noticed Ruth’s now saying that they’re not going to give Pip any travel money, after saying they would the other day.
It’s a plan to try and stop her going, but I can’t imagine they’ll stick to it if she does go. A young women, other side of the world, no money and a plonker for a boyfriend. They’ll surely have to step in at some point?
Jude’s described as …
“reckless”
“selfish”
By Ruth.
Elizabeth on Pip:
“You could see the child and adult side by side”
Ruth on Pip
“No idea what letting herself in for”
So we have a irresponsible manchild with a woman who hasn’t yet left being a girl behind.
If I was Pip’s parents, I’d be worried sick too …
“Talking just a big waste of time – can’t change anything”
Aw. I feel so sorry for Jamie amongst all of this.
As awful as I think Sid was as a person, he was still Jamie’s dad.
How sad was Josh’s mention that Jamie would have to watch the football alone if he didn’t watch it at Brookfield?
Surely Kenton could spare 90 minutes.
Kenton doesn’t notice, Kathy shouldn’t have to tell him
As well as being Sid’s dad, it’s also worth hearing that Kathy saw him as a ‘rock’ to their family.
With him gone, and Kenton acting like he couldn’t give a hoot, there’s a big gap in her and Jamie’s life.
While I agree with Pat that a relationship has to be give and take both sides, I don’t think Kathy going along to Jaxx (for the first time since the refurbishment) will make that much difference.
Kathy sees Jaxx as one of the main problems in her relationship with Kenton – but surely it’s all about Kenton being so blind to her and Jamie?
Yes Kenton – a trip to NZ is just what Kathy and Jamie need
Idiot.
The Archers: A cow gets hurt by a bottle … Eddie’s winning on the horses … Kevin Bacon … Kathy won’t go to Jaxx … some land might be bought … David shouts at Kenton … Ruth to invite Jude round
- An Ambridge resident wouldn’t do that!
- Eddie and Mystic Josie
- I think she did say Kevin Bacon
- Kathy’s starting to sound like Kenton
- The Battle of Hastings?
- Now that one wasn’t Kenton’s fault
- An evening with Jude
An Ambridge resident wouldn’t do that!
I’ve never understood folks who think it preferable to chuck their litter out of their car than hold onto it until the next bin, but I’m assuming none of the Ambridge set would’ve chucked that bottle, which then hurt one of Brookfield’s cows.
Dramatic times …
Eddie and Mystic Josie
Good to hear Eddie’s getting a few more quid into his pockets, but what’s the scam?
Is it Eddie that’s going to be taken for a ride (for once)?
Yes – I think she did say Kevin Bacon
Possibly heard last week, but it did sound like Pip’s tutor is called Kevin Bacon.
Isn’t that taking the Six Degrees too far?
Kathy’s starting to sound like Kenton
I’m still firmly on Kathy’s ‘side’, but her excuses for not going to Jaxx are a tad tenuous.
I reckon it’s because Jaxx is now synonymous with all that’s wrong between Kathy and Kenton (as far as Kathy sees it).
And even though Kathy should be more supportive, it’s special circumstances at the moment.
With Jaxx so busy, isn’t it just a matter of time until Kenton decides a grumpy/demanding partner, and rather morose kid (though understandably so) are too much baggage? Surely he’ll be meeting lots more woman nowadays …
Or, will Kathy just get fed up of coping alone?
The Battle of Hastings?
So, as far as I understand it, Beth Saunders and Mr Duffy won’t be a problem – but Mr Hastings might not
“be motivated by money”
Yikes! I’m not sure Brian and Annabelle can cope with such a chap.
Still, with Brian already planning retail development as well as the mart, I think we can look forward to lots of wheeler dealing, leading to Lynda (who’ll hopefully be heard soon) mounting a campaign against the development, or possibly a Matt Crawford size spike in Borchester Land’s wheels.
Now that one wasn’t Kenton’s fault
Size ten’s getting in the way again, but David was a bit harsh on Kenton.
“Everybody thinks they can do a better job with Pip”
Yes, Elizabeth think she could – but I don’t think Kenton would have even been aware of the whole Jude/Travel hoo-ha.
And who is David to tell Kenton that he can’t talk about what, he reckons, was “the best thing he ever did”?
David needs to wind his neck in. What a very rude man.
An evening with Jude
I’d even choose an evening with Vicky over that!
Poor Ruth now seems to be clutching at straws, but at least some sort of plan is a plan.
David, Jude, Pip and Ruth all in one room … I’m not sure if my speakers will cope with all that screeching and shouting.
Business is booming at Lower Loxley … topical insert alert! …Brian and Annabelle hatch their plan … Elizabeth and Nigel v. David and Ruth?
- Jelly people, Methodist ministers with karaoke and Paper plate men
- Just how exciting can celery be?
- Nigel sums up England’s 1-4 loss to Germany
- Brian takes the easy approach with Alice
- Nigel’s on a roll: now he sums up Jude
- Who does own that strip of land?
Jelly people, Methodist ministers with karaoke and Paper plate men
Life is never dull at Lower Loxley …
Just how exciting can celery be?
Quite exciting indeed, if everyone’s reaction to Jill’s latest cookery demonstration is to go by.
Nigel sums up England’s 1-4 loss to Germany
“Quite dreadful”
Indeed.
Freddie is seemingly now a lost soul, and even Elizabeth (who said herself that she never watches football) knew about Lampard’s goal not being given.
Still, Nigel does have high hopes for the England cricketers.
But I am a bit surprised that there’s been little to no mention of Wimbledon (though there was a slight ‘I need to catch up with the tennis’ today).
Surely tennis is more of an Ambridge sport than football?
Brian takes the easy approach with Alice
Never mind whether Chris is suitable for Alice, Brian just wants them both out from under his kitchen table.
As he said himself, Brian’s far from being a relationship guru, but at least he’s letting Alice just get on with her own life.
But it does sound like Jennifer’s not exactly on-side.
More trouble to come? Jennifer and Susan – handbags at dawn?
Nigel’s on a roll: now he sums up Jude
“29 and still can’t finish college – not very impressive”
Spot on old chap!
And at least Nigel’s’ providing a bit of common sense for Elizabeth, not that she’ll take any notice if she does make her mind up to not “reject” Pip “as well”.
While I still don’t understand why Elizabeth feels the need to be so involved with Pip (don’t aunts just pick out the fun bits, leaving the real problems to the parents?), she does seem to be the only one who sees Pip’s side of it.
As Pip’s so smitten with Jude, the thought of him travelling by himself for a year is more than enough reason to give up College and join him. Quite simply, he wouldn’t come back still her boyfriend if he want alone.
So no A levels, big fallout with her parents and a desperate drive to make enough money to at least get to Europe. All utterly against any common sense which might have survived Pip’s hormonal tsunami.
Considering Elizabeth also sees David and Ruth’s point of view (that Jude isn’t exactly the most reliable of folks, yet Pip would badly need him to step-up if anything went awry), what should she do?
Refuse Pip more work so that she’s not seen to take sides?
Give Pip work, supporting Pip’s wishes, yet damning herself to David and Ruth?
Try and persuade Pip that this is all mere folly?
It’s all academic depending on whether David and Ruth do choose to fund Pip’s travelling, but this might just end up with a rather nasty stooshy between the Pargetter’s and the Archers.
My money’s on Nigel …
Who does own that strip of land?
So Annabelle and Brian need to find out who owns a strip of land, if they’re to pull off a big deal for Borchester Land.
Has Matt beat them to it? Was it the one he and Lilian were looking at a few weeks back?
Or is there a wee windfall about to fall into the lap of another Ambridge resident?
Ruth’s worried about the fete’s beer tent … Eddie’s latest plan to make his fortune … Jude doesn’t sound all that pleased … Josh is quite literally taking up the reigns … David and Ruth might have to give way to Pip’s travel plans
- Eddie has a ‘real’ clairvoyant in his ‘real’ campsite
- If Jude thought that Pip was about to tell him she was pregnant …
- “Miserable little weasel”
Eddie has a ‘real’ clairvoyant in his ‘real’ campsite
Oh dear Eddie. Can you not see what’s about to happen? I’m sure your clairvoyant does, and it’s not because she has any special powers.
Seemingly, she
“Senses a horse’s cosmic aura”
and proved it by picking a winner.
Eddie reckons he’ll be able to turn up to work at Brookfield in a roller, now that he’s being more spiritual.
I can foresee a scam, Joe and Eddie losing money and Clarrie in a fearsome mood …
If Jude thought that Pip was about to tell him she was pregnant …
… that means Pip has not only let the slimy manboy get especially intimate with her AND she’s been daft enough to not take proper precautions.
Could that lass be any more stupid?
First off she’s now believing that Jude did call or answer her texts because he was getting drunk with his uncle (he must surely have a few more ladies on the go, despite me being unable to see why any woman would fall for his nonsense),
and she really can’t see that he doesn’t really want her to travel with him. Despite having to ask him that he does really want her, she’s easily satisfied with a few grunts from Jude.
But wait – she’s given him another excuse to not let her tag along. If she can’t get into America without her parent’s permission before she’s 18 (or at least not be able to do it as easily), surely he’ll grab onto the opportunity to bang on about how dull and tedious Europe is, therefore desperately needing to go to America without delay?
Or, will David and Ruth actually make it all so much easier for Pip?
“Miserable little weasel”
Despite David’s best intentions to thwart Pip’s plans to go away with Jude, Ruth is the ever present voice of reason.
Ruth is terrified at the thought of Pip having no money, and therefore being utterly dependent on Jude.
So, while neither of them like the idea of having to “bank roll” Pip’s travels, they also can’t cope with the idea that Pip wouldn’t have her own money – especially if her and Jude spilt up while on the other side of the world.
It’s a shame they don’t realise how lukewarm Jude is to Pip. If they did know, they’d be able to actually work with him to stop Pip leaving her education. As it is, they’re actually going to help Pip do the exact opposite of what Jude (seemingly) wants her to do.
Just when Jude thinks he can escape, mum and dad step in.
Whoops.
Freda buckles under pressure … “Kenton needs cheering” … David critiques Jill’s new cookery demonstration video … Pat talks up Brenda … Pip quits
- All that stress over a salsa verde?
- “Kenton needs cheering”
- “Once you get past that rather gauche exterior, she’s much less limited than you’d think”
- What sort of work can Pip be doing that’ll pay for a trip to Australia or America after only a couple of weeks???
All that stress over a salsa verde?
Poor Freda.
Will she have a complete breakdown if Nathan Booth keeps up his jinks?
“Kenton needs cheering”
According to David.
Maybe he can cheer himself up by behaving like a half-decent human?
Pat was telling Lilian about how upset Kathy is, and that Jamie is glued to his video games.
As we all know, Jamie needs Kenton. Seemingly Kenton is the only one Jamie will open up to – but he’s simply just not there (physically as well as emotionally).
Lilian reckons it’s because of Kenton starting up a new business.
But, as it’s been said before, I reckon it’s just a matter of priorities.
Jaxx is more important than Kathy or Jamie.
But just how long will they be willing to put up with coming a very poor second best?
“Once you get past that rather gauche exterior, she’s much less limited than you’d think”
*snort*
That’s a backhanded compliment if I ever heard one!
Lilian just can’t quite seem to rise to Pat’s utterly positive opinion of Brenda and her abilities.
“In an ideal world, we looked around a bit longer – seen who else was available”
Though as Pat was waxing lyrical, Lilian did mention that she’d no doubt that Brenda could
“manage basic office jobs”
How long before that gets back to Brenda? And just how vitriolic will Tom be about it?
What sort of work can Pip be doing that’ll pay for a trip to Australia or America after only a couple of weeks???
The mind does boggle and worry …
It was a long time coming, but Pip has quit College before David and Ruth even had a chance to persuade her otherwise. And she finally admits that she mucked up some of her exams (will that keep Elizabeth quiet now?)
As Ruth put it, Pip’s basically
“Giving up education for a long holiday”
And let’s face it, even if Pip had got rubbish grades at the end of College, as long as she passed overall, it’d never matter. Unless she was aiming for academia, all that she needs to show is that she managed to stick with it, get a qualification and learn some stuff.
Instead, she’s wasted the last year.
Though, did I hear Pip started to say ‘Jude’ as David and Josh do (along the lines of ‘Ruuuude’)? Is that the tone of dissent with the manboy?
Ah well. The best we can hope for is that both Pip and Jude goes away for a long while, with Pip then returning solo and a less whiny person.
Either way, the fund to pay for Jude to go (and stay gone) is swelling up nicely in an offshore account. Feel free to contribute at your leisure ;-)
Alice sells more strawberries than Brian … Very groovy ‘topical insert’ about the World Cup … Kathy, Jamie and Fallon arrive home … Jude might go away
- Defoe scored, Rooney hit the post
- Kenton remains oblivious
- Now don’t tease us. We’ll all put in a fiver for Jude to go travelling
Defoe scored, Rooney hit the post
I will fully admit that I was utterly delighted about the football chat tonight.
That was a very groovy moment, worthy of much Twittering.
Jolly good show, folks.
Kenton remains oblivious
Just when is the penny going to drop?
Kenton didn’t get it when they first found out when Sid had died
Still didn’t get it when he chose to put Jaxx above going to New Zealand with Kathy and Jamie
Give them a lift to the airport? Nope, Kenton didn’t work that one out
Call them on the day of Sid’s funeral? Don’t be daft, they should have been calling him about the re-opening of Jaxx
Be appropriate/tender/supportive (and on) when collecting them from the airport? Mais non – still didn’t get it.
And when Kathy made slight digs about the lack of people at the funeral and the lack of support she had – did Kenton even notice?
Did he Jaxx!!!
Jamie’s obviously in pieces after an “awful funeral”, and all Kenton can think to bang on about is the traffic and the football.
I know – that might just be his way, and he did sound nervous – but surely enough’s enough?
How come he doesn’t have a clue about his step-son’s life (forgetting that Jamie watched the football with Sid at The Bull), and can he not actually hear Kathy when she was talking?
And adding insult to injury, he then heads off to Jaxx when Kathy and Jamie have gone to bed.
You know what. I can accept that some folks just can’t cope with grief but, as I’ve said before, can Kenton not even muster enough empathy to realise that Kathy and Jamie just need him to be there?
Now don’t tease us. We’ll all put in a fiver for Jude to go travelling
There’s a surprise. Jude’s Head of Department doesn’t like him.
Chris also seemed to find Jude a bit of a dud:
“It’s like talking to a depressed undertaker”
I think Jude has missed the point about College. It’s a choice and a privilege, quite unlike a prison.
Can’t say I’m surprised to hear he’s going to quit. Isn’t that what weak-minded control freaks like him do when they don’t get their way?
But thrice hurrah! His plan is to go travelling. For a year. Which means that Pip couldn’t go with him, and she’d be bound to find a better young chap while he’s away.
Or, will she chuck her College in as well and head off with him? Would she manage to even make it past Borchester without David shooting the tyres off of Jude’s car???
Mind you, had to *snort* over Jude’s idea of ‘real travelling’. Seemingly Europe is too small minded, but it’s real in Australia.
Idiot.
Pip cooks and cleans for a toneless Jude … Loves young dream (Alice & Chris) are back together … How to smoke a bee …
- Jude “wasn’t being rude”, but …
- The hunt’s on for Alice and Chris to have privacy
- Smoking bees with Gran is indeed very cool
Jude “wasn’t being rude”, but …
Just as when someone says ‘I’m not racist, but …’, you know that what’s going to come next is exactly what they’re trying to pretend they’re not doing.
It’s so bloomin’ obvious to all of us – why doesn’t Pip see any of the rubbish that Jude keeps throwing at her?
She’s probably too busy trying to find a new bin bag to put it in. Not as if Jude cares.
So Jude now has work to do, and can’t “muck about”, unlike when Pip was being dull and boring for studying when Jude wanted to party.
Instead of taking the hint, Pip gets food in, cooks in, cleans the kitchen – only to be basically told to go away.
I suppose it’s easy to scoff at her mindless devotion – she’s so ‘in love’ with Jude that she’ll do anything to spend even just 5 more minutes with him.
Can we all foresee problems with their trip around Europe?
The hunt’s on for Alice and Chris to have privacy
And, quite sensibly, they’re going to go on holiday for a month.
An American road trip sounds grand – but where are these two getting the money? Isn’t Alice a student? And Chris a trainee farrier?
Or is Brian and Jennifer unwittingly bankrolling this trip?
Either way, with them unable to even ‘snog’ without one of their parents catching them, it sounds like a cunning plan.
And how nice to hear a young couple who really like each other, neither of whom is a complete idiot.
Pip could learn ‘relationships 101’ from them.
Smoking bees with Gran is indeed very cool
Now this is why I listen to The Archers.
I learnt something new, while listening into a lovely scene between gran and grandson.
I knew that smoking bees had something to do with them thinking there was a fire – but didn’t know that the smoke made them load up with honey, making them too heavy. I thought they just became drowsy. Actually, if I had thought about it, I’d have realised that being drowsy isn’t a great response to fire.
Wasn’t it nice to hear Josh getting so enthusiastic about something that Jill loves?
I’ve said it before, but I think he might be the next Brookfield farmer, rather than flighty wee Pip. Plenty of time, but he’s certainly interested and keen.
Also made me *snort* that Josh had picked up David’s way of saying Jude’s name.
All together now: Juuuude …
