Jamie’s not on Sid’s memorial headstone?: Thurs 23.08.12

Ambridge Extra Thursday 23rd August 2012
  • Lucy’s as unpleasant as Sid was
  • Lance can’t come sailing … then he can
  • Hello Sid

Lucy’s as unpleasant as Sid was

Jolene’s arrived at Lucy’s after a very long trip indeed.

[Jolene] “Don’t think I’ve ever spent so long on a coach.”

Lucy couldn’t care less. All she heard was that Jolene couldn’t afford to fly, which means The Bull can’t be doing very well. Which makes Lucy gloat.

She’s also put Jolene in the same room that she’s last shared with Sid (before he died, obviously). She’s also, very helpfully, left a photo of Sid in there.

[Lucy] “I thought you’d like to be reminded of him, before you see the memorial tomorrow.”

Lucy then went on to hint that it was Jolene’s fault Sid’s heart gave out. She was too young for him.

And she only offers tea when Jolene asked for coffee. Then made Jolene feel fat for asking for sugar.

What a witch!

On Kenton …

[Lucy] “He didn’t come over with Kathy did he, when dad died … I can’t help thinking, if it had been dad, I can’t imagine him not giving support when it was needed for his partner …”

She really is Sid’s daughter …

Lance can’t come sailing … then he can

Lance is back at Mel’s.

[Lance] “Just as well, someone’s got to teach this pom how to play cricket!”

Kenton then asks Meriel if she wants to go sailing for a week. Though Mel is at first angry he didn’t ask her first, she agrees. And, perfect to Kenton’s plan, Aidan can’t go as he’d be away from their business for too long.

Lance also invites himself.

Kenton says no, as it’s meant to be just a family trip.

When Jolene gets back from Lucy’s (incredibly quickly considering the distance – one moment there, next moment here!), Kenton’s again ignoring her. It took Lance to get her wine, cook her a lovely steak, and flirt with her …

Lance tells her that when they go sailing, Kenton and Mel will be too busy to talk to her. Seems Kenton and Mel are quite a team when it comes to sailing a boat.

So, sensing she’ll have even more of a rubbish time that she thought, Jolene invites Lance.

Kenton can’t really argue about that.

Which one do we reckon is going to be pushed overboard?

Hello Sid

Lucy takes Jolene to see Sid’s memorial.

[Lucy] “No offence, but I;m still not really sure why you want to, it’s not where his ashes are scattered … I come her a lot. It’s all I’ve got.”

(pick, pick)

Odd this is that when Jolene read out the headstone, it mentioned Lucy and her kids, and Jolene, but no Jamie.

That’s a drama waiting to happen …

Anyhoo, Jolene only gets to say a quick hello and goodbye.

[Jolene] “I miss you, rest in peace my darling.”

Lucy drags her off again as it’s raining.

[Lucy] “I think it’s quite remarkable how you’ve been able to move on so quickly, it must be quite a comfort … a guy like Kenton, he must be such a distraction … not for the long haul, but a laugh while it lasts”

(meow!)

A Lance from Kenton’s past: Tues 21.08.12

Ambridge Extra Tuesday 21st August 2012
  • Kenton ruined Jolene’s Rotorua brochure
  • Jolene has doubts about Kenton?
  • Kenton’s thoughtlessness continues
  • What about Sid?
  • I though Crowded House were Australian
  • Blow the Man Down is rude!
  • Lance sounds dodgy …
  • At least one person notices Jolene

Kenton ruined Jolene’s Rotorua brochure

Not intentionally, but was a bit thoughtless of him to lie on it. Jolene wanted to keep it as a souvenir.

Jolene has doubts about Kenton?

Jolene’s talk with Mel – how Kenton left her penniless with a baby – is seemingly making her have second thoughts about Kenton,.

[Jolene] “Well, you think you know someone …”

[Kenton] “It was all different back then. It was all very complicated.”

Kenton’s thoughtlessness continues

Kenton wants to go out on the boat trip for a whole week rather than a few days.

Despite Jolene not being keen.

It’ll cost an extra £800 or £900. Which they don’t really have.

He even asked if Jolene would pay it …

And it’d mean Meriel having to take a whole week of school.

It is all about Meriel. Kenton feels that he’s losing her to Aiden. All the activities they done so far:

[Kenton] “They’re all Aiden sort of things … and he’s good at them.”

[Jolene] “So you’re trying to freeze him out.”

[Kenton] “I just want to do some proper bonding with my daughter.”

Aye, and who cares what Kenton’s (rather new) lady friend wants to do on their holiday!

What about Sid?

Kenton’s extension to the boat trip is right when Jolene was to go to Napier to see Lucy, and visit Sid’ memorial.

[Kenton] “Well maybe you could reschedule … I could come with you, if you want?”

[Jolene] “Oh don’t bother. You’ve obviously plenty to do here!”

Honestly Kenton!

A bit of tact, and care for Jolene’s feelings, wouldn’t go amiss right now.

Though Jolene manages to change when she’ll go visit Lucy, Lucy’s none too amused at the change.

I though Crowded House were Australian

So was wondering why they were being played as a musical interlude.

On checking, seems they’re both Australian and New Zealand.

Well, there we have it.

Blow the Man Down is rude!

And there’s another thing I didn’t know.

Lance sounds dodgy …

Lance turns up at Mel’s house. Unannounced. And he’s never visited before.

Seems Lance was a business partner of Mel and Kenton’s back in Australia. They’d bought a yacht, which they used to takes folks on day trips and the like to the Great Barrier Reef.

[Meriel] “Why did you stop?”

[Kenton] “Erm …”

[Lance] “Well we had good times while it lasted …Who’d have though Kenton would be here to like the ghost of Christmas past!”

[Kenton] “That’s cause ‘I’ve got family here.”

Sounds like Kenton’s none too pleased to see Lance.

And neither he nor Mel believe Lance showing up just when Kenton happened to be there is a coincidence.

At least one person notices Jolene

Shame she’s on the other side of the world.

Between Meriel, Lance and the boat trip, Jolene is being ignored.

So while Kenton, Lance and Mel have a grand old time reliving old stories, Jolene calls home.

Fallon tells her all’s well. That Rhys has been great (she also agrees he's a “nice lad” … romance in the offing? Fallon surely has to put some distance between her and her night of passion with Jazzer!).

Jolene tells her they visited a Maori village and ate food cooked on rocks.

And they went to an Argentinian restaurant.

[Jolene] “You’ve never seen so much beef on a plate … even when Kenton kept making jokes about the Falklands …”

[Fallon, very sarcastically] “He’s a scream, isn’t he …”

Oops.

I don’t think Kenton will be staying at The Bull when they get home.

Adam’s been thinking 30.05.12

The Archers Wednesday 20th May 2012
  • Elona hopes Lynda gets her 60 sponges
  • The Queen is deemed a good ‘un
  • A new supermarket!
  • Jim and Christine still estranged
  • Adam’s in a reflective mood
  • Lilian sorts the wages
  • Kenton and Jolene New Zealand bound?
  • Two years since Sid
  • Peggy still gets (junk) mail at Grey Gables
  • Kenton’s new cocktails
  • Jolene’s an ardent ex-smoker

Elona hopes Lynda gets her 60 sponges

[Lilian] “Or she’ll be a few sponges short of a jubilee!”

The Queen is deemed a good ‘un

[Elona] “She’s a marvellous woman”

[Lilian] “Well, she’s lived the good life”

[Peggy] “And worked very hard, Lilian!”

During the war:

[Peggy] “I was only a lowly stores orderly; while she got to drive a jeep … I could have fancied to learn to drive in a convoy”

A new supermarket!

And no one seems to give a hoot. Odd.

It’s on the site of the old mart, so I suppose it was a done deal. Lynda (and her like) must be too busy with Jubilees, Britain in Bloom, and a Super Dairy on the way …

Jim and Christine still estranged

[Peggy] “Oh, have you heard, Jim and Christine have fallen out. Did you know he was an anarchist and a republican?”

But I though Jim was a Royalist. Wasn’t he quite excited and supportive about Camilla’s visit?

Adam’s in a reflective mood

Not working, at home recuperating, Adam’s got time the time to ponder.

He’s been reading his dairies from when he was travelling through Senegal. Some of it’s quite poetic. Some of it isn’t.

[Ian, reading the diary aloud] “Stubbed my big toe on a fence post, swore like a docker”

[Adam] “It’s like I’m reading about someone else”

[Ian] “All very different from an English Country Garden”

(Adam sighed at that)

When Adam later went out for hack with Lilian, he told her he’d phoned his mate Vince, with whom who’d been in Kenya. Vince is just about to go to Malawi to do some charity work, helping to fit fuel efficient cooking stoves.

[Adam] “It’s made me nostalgic … for my younger self. I sometimes wonder if I shouldn’t have stayed”

[Lilian] “But then you would have met Ian. And he’s worth a thousand fuel efficient cooking stoves”

[Adam] “He’s the one bright spot at the moment … what do I do that makes any impact at all … I’m a cog in a corporate machine .. it’s not why I wanted to be a farmer”

[Lilian] “Everyone needs food, and you produce it … don’t sell yourself short”

When Lilian later has a wine with Ian, she tells him Adam is brooding. And needs taking out of himself.

Lilian sorts the wages

Lilian checked with Elona to see how Matt paid Darrell. It was cash. Again.

Lilian then later phones Elona to tell her it’s all sorted. She claims she took the “thumb screws” to Matt, and Darrell will be on formal wages by the end of the week.

Wonder if Matt knows?

Kenton and Jolene New Zealand bound?

Meriel has emailed Kenton a new photo:

[Kenton] “Suddenly she doesn’t look like a tiddler anymore”

(Meriel’s 11)

Kenton wants Jolene to meet Meriel – Jolene wants Kenton to meet little Sidney.

But, Jolene can’t see how they can afford to go.

[Jolene] “Let’s park it for now”

Ha! Knowing Kenton, he’ll buy the tickets and have Jolene off to New Zealand in a matter of weeks.

Two years since Sid

On the mention of Sid’s grandson Sidney:

[Jolene] “It’s almost two years now. I can hardly believe it”

Peggy still gets (junk) mail at Grey Gables

Must be a very long age such Peggy stopped working there.

Kenton’s new cocktails

Include a Presidential Pick Me Up and:

[Kenton] “Can I interest you in our republican cocktail or you the man for our royal flush?”

Ian declines. Wine is just fine.

Jolene’s an ardent ex-smoker

[Jolene] “I wish people wouldn’t stub their fags out in the tubs. Filthy habit”

[Lilian] “Time was, darling”

[Jolene] “One day you’ll see the light an all”

I very much doubt that. How can Fagash Lil by Fagash Lil without the fags?

The Archers Sunday 3rd July 2011: Worried teens, good lambs and wheat, Percy Shelley

  • Court on Friday
  • Good lamb!
  • “Your mum said you were giving the lambs a blow dry”
  • Eddie trims toenails!!!
  • Drought? What drought??
  • Changing my mind about Natalie …
  • Livestock Vs Arable
  • What does David do for as hobby?
  • You weren’t wild, Pip!
  • To a Skylark - Percy Bysshe Shelley
  • “And we live here”

Court on Friday

Jamie gets off the phone from a very worried and upset Marty.

Steve’s been charged with taking a car without permission, no insurance and driving over the limit.

Marty has been charged with letting himself be carried in a vehicle taken without permission (or something along those lines).

Marty doesn’t seem to be blaming Jamie for telling the truth to the Police. But he is terrified about what might happen next.

[Kathy] “At least, well, I can’t see him doing it again in a hurry”

Quite right indeed.

Wonder how much of a big man Steve is going to feel in court. Spencer reckons he’s trying to play the wee kid at home – hiding in his room, hoping it will all go away, while his parents fret.

Good lamb!

So reckons Pip. She tells David that he’s done such a good job over the years that she’s spoilt for choice when she had to select two good ones for showing at the Borchester Show.

David also sounded a bit chirpier – and took Pip’s compliments without snorting.

How long before Elizabeth spoils his mood again.

“Your mum said you were giving the lambs a blow dry”

And that’s why I love Ambridge.

That Pip was blow drying the lambs is normal.

That Pip’s boyfriend, Spencer, doesn’t blink when he’s told what Pip’s doing.

And that wee lambs get to be pampered (well … before they are taken to … ahem … you know …).

Eddie trims toenails!!!

I still wake up in cold sweats at the thought of Clarrie having to clip Joe’s toenails.

And what do I learn tonight?

That Eddie has trimmed Pip’s lambs’ toenail “to perfection”.

Goodness sake, Eddie.

Pull your toenail clippers out at home!

Drought? What drought??

It’s always naff having to listen to someone else moaning about a lack of rain, when you’ve got far too much.

Still. My own fault for living in the West of Scotland. And my bit of Scotland tends to be warmer and dryer than most others.

Anyhoo – Spencer’s wheat seems to be okay, and they might even harvest early.

Phew!

Changing my mind about Natalie …

Maybe Natalie just really needed her caravan weekend.

She seems far more interested and caring about Jamie today.

Jamie certainly seems to have calmed down. Though worried about having had to “rat” on his mates to the Police, and now having to possibly be a witness in court – when Natalie comes over, all he wants to do is have a nice walk with her.

Aw!

[Jamie] “Steve … he makes you feel bad if you don’t join in”

[Natalie] “Whatever happens, it’s not your fault … get your head in gear. He’s done stuff. There are consequences. End of story”

Aye indeedy. Well said, young lady.

Livestock Vs Arable

[Spencer on David] “For a livestock man, he’s pretty clued up on wheat”

[Pip] “Typical arable farmer, you think we’re all a bunch of hicks!”

But it’s all amicable, really. Just young lovers jesting.

What does David do for as hobby?

Asks Spencer.

Nothing. He just works.

Now – if he was to sit himself down at about 7pm, grab a cuppa (or something slightly stronger) and turn on Radio 4, a whole new world might open up for him …

You weren’t wild, Pip!

Pip reckons she can’t talk about what Steve is putting his parents through, after what she did to hers when she was seeing Jude.

Eh?

So she went to Cornwall without them knowing. Had a few drinks. Being a bit stroppy.

Not quite the same as stealing cars, m’dear.

(but bless her cotton socks for thinking so)

To a Skylark - Percy Bysshe Shelley

In the golden lightning
Of the sunken sun,
O'er which clouds are bright'ning,
Thou dost float and run;
Like an unbodied joy whose race is just begun.
[Jamie] “No-one has ever said a poem to me before”

See what I mean? Can Natalie be anything other than a nice young lass, who can quote Shelley?

“And we live here”

Jamie was talking about the time that Sid made him go running (he reckons Sid kept himself fit for the cricket … aye, right then!), it was too hot, and they had to stop halfway up Lakey Hill as Jamie was struggling.

As they sat together and look at Ambridge, Sid said:

[Jamie quoting Sid] “Aren’t we lucky … just look at it. And we live here. We’ve got everything we need. And best of all we’ve got something who loves us. What else is there to worry about …”

Jamie reckons he just wants Sid to be proud of him. And that Jamie will do whatever it takes to make Sid proud.

Which is where Natalie steps in to encourage Jamie to go to 6th form college …

Liking this girl more and more!

Ambridge Extra Thursday 9th June 2011: Alice snogs Chas

  • What’s a ‘sick’ picture?
  • Nic hasn’t much of an imagination
  • Sid’s birthday
  • Chas breaks Reggie’s mobile phone
  • Steve and Marty make plans for Jamie
  • Chas cannae kiss!

What’s a ‘sick’ picture?

Marty is (again) talking rubbish to Jamie when he’s (again) trying to study.

[Marty] “Since when did you start hanging out with the nerds in the library!”

But then Marty goes on to talk about how Steve has a ‘sick’ picture of someone called Josie Watkins.

That sounds like a rather horrible picture to me – or does it mean that it’s good?

(and I’m increasingly annoyed by Ambridge Extra making me feel old when I’m only in my kid thirties).

Nic hasn’t much of an imagination

Nic still has no idea how to get Fallon up Lakey Hill for her surprise treat.

She does come up with a bit of an odd plan – to put on a treasure hunt, which Fallon would take part in, and be led up Lakey Hill as part of a clue.

Rhys quite rightly points out the major flaws in Nic’s idea – that she’d have to advertise the Treasure Hunt; that others might take part; that Fallon might be too dim to solver the clues; that Fallon may not even want to do a Treasure hunt …

… but what’s his idea? He did, after all, dump the task of getting Fallon up Lakey Hill onto Nic – when, after all, it was he and Kirsty need to make up with Fallon.

Rhys comes up with winching Fallon down from a helicopter, or strapping her to a quad bike.

Very helpful.

[Nic] “I don’t know why I’m doing this”

[Rhys] “It’s because you’re a lovely person”

(oooh – Nic and Rhys?)

Sid’s birthday

After telling Marty to go away when he was trying to study in the library, Jamie starts ranting (to, rather than at) Natalie about how he should have done more revision, months ago, rather than just before his exam.

But then the real reason for his anxiety comes out:

[Jamie] “I just miss him, alright … everything’s changed … why did it have to get screwed up … u just want things to be like they used to be?”

He’d actually been reading books about life after death, when he was in the library.

Jamie’s verdict? They were all rubbish, and he is truly on its own.

Chas breaks Reggie’s mobile phone

I’ve said it before. Chas is a right ar*e.

He’s back at Reggie’s, hassling him for money.

Unlucky for Reggie, Chas turned up early – so managed to avoid have to deal with Reggie’s brother Lesley again.

When Reggie tries to call Lesley, Chas breaks his phone. It then sounded like Chas had hit him. And made off with his telly.

Ar*e.

Steve and Marty make plans for Jamie

Steve reckons Jamie is a mummy’s boy.

So he and Marty make plans to get Jamie “completely slaughtered” on Monday night, when his exams are over.

It didn’t sound like “getting slaughtered” was meant in a good way.

Chas cannae kiss!

Alice’s final exams are over, so she’s celebrating with Paulie, and his girlfriend – drinking games first, then off to see The Undertones (a popular Hit Parade band).

Chas comes in when Paulie had been forced to admit that he’d kiss Dermot O’Leary (they’re playing truth or dare). And Alice reckons that Adam thought that Paulie was quite cute.

(and???)

Chas is in a good mood (well, he’s probably just sold Reggie’s telly for £50), and is ‘well up’ for a party.

When it’s his truth at truth or dare, Alice asks him for the truth of what he really thought when she told him she’d married Chris.

[Chas] “I thought … lucky Chris”

(aye, right you did. I’m sure there were a few more expletives in mind).

Alice’s turn. She wouldn’t tell the truth of say who she’d fantasised “shagging” at Uni – so she was dared (by Paulie’s girlfriend) to snog Chas.

So they do.

After the deed:

[Chas] “That was okay, wasn’t it?”

[Alice – without much enthusiasm] “Yeah … who is next?”

Laugh at Chas?

Yes. Yes I did.

Thursday, 23 December 2010

The Archers Wed 22nd Dec 2010: Thank goodness for Nic!

  • Alice and Chris, living it large
  • Was that Vicky in the background?
  • “It shouldn’t be all sleep and work at her age”
  • Don’t interfere!
  • Clarrie gets a day out!
  • Nearly ‘101 Jigsaw, with Clarrie Grundy’
  • The Grundy family Christmas is back on!
  • Jazzer’s been dumped
  • Sid liked Carol Singers

Alice and Chris, living it large

I shouldn’t take the Michael out of Alice and Chris for being a tad twee and middle aged. After all, it is the simple pleasure in life …

They’re happy enough just being able to have lunch together. Alice is back from Uni for the holidays, and is loving the festive air of Ambridge.

Was that Vicky in the background?

As Alice and Chris were having their lunch in The Bull, I could have sworn I heard Vicky in the background talking quite loudly about something she’d seen on TV.

Maybe she’s drowning her sorrows after her ‘mistake, and subsequent dressing down by Pat.

“It shouldn’t be all sleep and work at her age”

Quite right too, Jolene.

Though I think Fallon is going to get some sort of a nasty shock if she keeps up her chase of Harry.

I have no idea what that shock will be due to – but it is acoming …

Don’t interfere!

Alice and Chris are talking about Susan’s Christmas Eve soiree:

[Chris] “It won’t be what I call a party … sophisticated and stylish, is what she’s going for … she doesn’t mind going to a lot of trouble when it’s your mum and dad.”

Worried that Susan tends to gets over-anxious about the two families bonding, they can foresee that the party won’t be fun, and will result in an upset Susan.

[Chris] “Basically, it’s going to be everyone standing round for a bit with drinks an nibbles, all on their best behaviour … then they’ll all start drifting off cause they’re bored … and mum will feel rubbish”

[Alice] “It is a bit of a waste of a party”

[Chris] “No kidding. So, what we going to do?”

Later on, Alice and Chris reveal their rescue strategy of the party involved …. Party games.

Hmmm.

As they were mulling over wondrous games like name that Christmas tune – team races – pass the orange without using your hands – pin the red nose on Rudolph (which Chris seemed to get quite excited about – am I missing something?) – or charades.

Bless their eagerness, but I don’t see how making everyone play a party game will relax the atmosphere. Seriously – Susan and Brian squaring up to pass an orange? I think not.

Best leave well alone, methinks.

Clarrie gets a day out!

But it is only the supermarket.

Still, at least Nic driving her means she isn’t left by Joe and Eddie to make it alone (one-handed) on the bus.

Nearly ‘101 Jigsaw, with Clarrie Grundy’

Thank goodness Nic walked in when Clarrie was explaining how to do a jigsaw.

I actually could listen to Clarrie talking about most things for hours, but that would have been pushing it.

Actually – Saint Nic seems to be popping everywhere, just at the right time. She’d helped Clarrie go Christmas shopping and she tided Clarrie’s kitchen after Joe and Ed had wrecked it (“was like Kung Fu Panda had been in”).

But it’s Nic’s next good deed that’ll make Christmas interesting for us all …

The Grundy family Christmas is back on!

Nic’s horrified to hear Clarrie talking about how she’s going to manage to make Christmas dinner.

Clarrie was going to get up extra early to get it all started. After all, it’ll take twice the time with only one hand. But:

[Clarrie] “There’s no pastry involved in a turkey dinner, luckily”

[Nic] “Can’t Emma help you?”

[Clarrie] “They haven’t said what time they’ll be round … they can always help me set the table … you know, last minute things”

Nic then sounded more than perturbed that Emma and Ed hadn’t thought to offer to cook Christmas dinner for Clarrie. What with her being slightly incapacitated.

So Nic takes matters in hand, and changes her plans so that the rather selfish Ed/Emma/Joe/Eddie can have their dinner without cooking it.

Which means Will, Nic and kids will be joining the rest of the Grundy clan for Christmas.

Yup – that’s right – Will and Ed will be spending Christmas day together. What larks we shall have!

Although delighted to have Will and Nic for Christmas – with the added bonus of not having to struggle on alone – even Clarrie is a tad suspect about Will actually agreeing to all of this willingly (ahem!)

[Nic] “He said yes – he was fine about it”

[Clarrie] “It doesn’t sound like our William”

[Nic] “You see this way, he gets to spend Christmas and boxing day with George”

[Clarrie] “Oh come here – you’re a smasher, you are!”

So Nic’s fixed it.

And it’s a rare occasion that an Ambridge resident can simply be that nice and good, without having to be wary about her motivations.

Nic is just that sort of a lass.

Jazzer’s been dumped

Oho! And, for once, he’s let it get to him.

Jazzer’s seemingly sat in The Bull reading old texts from Jackie – who, despite his best efforts to impress by cooking her a meal, hasn’t seen fit to stay with ol’ Jazzer over the festive period.

A return to proclaiming love for Fallon while slightly more than full of the festive spirit?

Sid liked Carol Singers

So says Jolene.

The Archers Tues 30th Nov 2010: Helen has names for her baby

  • “Little Sid will see what a lovely person big Sid was”
  • Quite right Kenton!
  • Fallon’s dicing with death-by-Lynda-Snell
  • Jolene’s sewer of a mind
  • Helen in eating shock!
  • What more do we have to give?

“Little Sid will see what a lovely person big Sid was”

Ah, a nice idea to give wee Sid a nice photo of a happy big (now dead) Sid.

Funny that. I don’t remember him ever being that jolly …

Quite right Kenton!

It’s not often I agree with our Kenton, but he was quite right to step in and harass that antiques dealer if he was being dodgy

[Kenton] “I couldn’t just stand by and watch my dear poor aunty be ripped off”

Of course, it’s probably the way Kenton went about it that’s set Elizabeth off on one again. I can just imagine his macho posturing.

[Kenton] “I am now persona non grata at Lower Loxley until the end of the Antiques Fair”

Poor chap. He also can’t get anyone to go to lunch with him, and even resorts to begging Helen and Ian to let him join them.

Fallon’s dicing with death-by-Lynda-Snell

Cripes! Fallon has some nerve saying that Lynda’s panto script is a “bit rubbish in parts”

I would even utter that if I was on a different planet from Lynda. She has her way of hearing these things …

Jolene’s sewer of a mind

Jolene mistook Fallon for saying she’d been doing something rather more intimate with Harry than rhyming couplets

[Fallon] “Then we got a bit carried away … one you start you … once you get into the rhythm of it, it’s hard to stop”

Come on Jolene – keep up! Fallon and Harry are starring together in the panto.

Still, it’s nice that Jolene even registers when someone is speaking to her. It was oh so different just a few months ago.

Helen in eating shock!

Ian’s been a quiet as of late, and certainly wasn’t around to berate Helen for getting too anxious about food and exercise while pregnant.

But now that Helen’s a bit happier – up he pops.

Hmmm. Smacks a bit of ‘fair-weather friend’. Which I hate even thinking, as we all do love a bit of Ian.

Anyhoo, Ian’s offers to sort the nursery will at least stop Helen painting the flat again.

[Ian] “I’m not having this baby come into this world without a properly equipped nursery”

Aw, sweet!

Which is the exact opposite to Tony’s behaviour. I really do feel for Helen about Tony still not accepting the inevitable:

[Helen] “But no amount of disapproval will make this baby go away … I so want him to celebrate his grandchild, but he just won’t … it makes me so sad”

Despite her problems with her dad, Helen does seem a bit perkier. A chat with Amy really seems to have done wonders.

[Helen] “I really am going to try and relax some more … and eat”

*thud*

And, she’s also even though of some names – Henry for a boy, Megan for a girl.

Henry Archer or Megan Archer – we await you with eager anticipation! And we’ve started a fund for the therapy you’ll need to untie those mother’s apron springs …

What more do we have to give?

That’s gratitude for you.

Harry makes a website and a Twitter profile. I even created a bloomin; Facebook cause (now at 540). The residents come up with ideas, do a lot of the work AND put money through the till. Even the BBC made t-shirts (though I doubt The Bull say any of that income!).

After all that, Jolene is still thinking of “jacking the pub in”.

Ya boo to you!

Well, actually, to be fair, Jolene was talking to Kenton about how

[Jolene] “Every bit of it (the pub) still reminding me”

But Kenton came back with some very sound advice (eh? Kenton???)

[Kenton, on running away to sea and Australia] “It wasn’t Ambridge I had a problem with … it was me”

[Kenton] “Why would you want to go somewhere that didn’t remind you of him?”

He has a point. Jolene doesn’t want to forget, just be able to move on.

By the way – if Kenton and Jolene are to ‘get it on’, can they do so quickly and quietly, please.

The Archers: Slow day in Ambridge … Fallon needs to go to the hairdressers, Brenda has a sandwich, Jamie wants “spag bol”, Kathy runs out of petrol, Adam/Kate/Debbie buy Alice/Chris a hotel room …

  • Did we need the entire job description read out?
  • Jamie finds a kindred spirit in Fallon
  • Alice’s alternative favours
  • So that’s what was wrong with Marshall
  • Kenton is second best

Did we need the entire job description read out?

This will be a recurring theme throughout today’s posting, but why such a  slow day in Ambridge?

After helping Fallon to write the job advert for a new barperson, Brenda then read out the thing in entirety.

I thought that only happened in the old days with new instructions from the Agriculture Department …

It doesn’t seem like Fallon had heard Jolene might be selling up, but at least she has a ‘girls night out’ to look forward to at some point.

Jamie finds a kindred spirit in Fallon

It seems like more and more people are starting to understand what Jamie’s going through.

Last night Kenton, tonight Fallon.

“you got your guitar from your dad - I got my cricket bat”

Over a plate of spaghetti, Fallon’s able to coax Jamie a bit more out of himself, and encourages him to writer (a song, poem or story) to deal with what’s going on.

Now that Jamie is able to talk to folks, does it mean that Kenton is about to split with Kathy, and Fallon has to leave because Jolene sells her share in the pub? That’d send Jamie right over the edge …

Alice’s alternative favours

Which are a donation to an Alzheimer charity on behalf of each guest.

Debbie, Adam and Kate have also gifted Alice and Chris a couple of nights in the honeymoon suite at Grey Gables.

It was a nice chat between Alice and Debbie (hurrah to Debbie being home!), but not exactly the most scintillating of conversations (I’m most perturbed to report!).

So that’s what was wrong with Marshall

Is it just me, or do we really care that Marshall’s gone?

Anyway, Debbie split up with him because his

“agenda was different than mine”

Seemingly, his baking cakes and ‘new man’ attributes were all an act to

“get him where he wanted to go”

In other words, he was playing nice with the aim of getting Debbie pregnant, then barefoot in the kitchen.

Ah well. At least they split up quietly and away from our ears. Maybe Kathy and Kenton could learn a few things from them.

Kenton is second best

After the drama of running out of petrol (steady!), Kathy finally admits that Kenton is not the same as Sid. And that Sid was the “real hub”.

Maybe time for her now to realise that they need to split up? (at last!)

The Archers: Kathy and Kenton are still not talking … Brenda’s manages to do more than just coffee … Izzy tells Pip the truth .. Sid’s will is being read on Friday
  • The cold front continues
  • While Lilian’s away having boozy coffees …
  • Pip still feels like an idiot
  • Will there be any surprises in Sid’s will?
  • “That’s just sick”
  • Should a friend tell you your partner is a bad-un while you’re still going out with them?

The cold front continues

First Kathy won’t have anything to do with Kenton, now Kenton’s avoiding Kathy.

This will make for simply super birthday for poor Jamie.

Still, at least Josh is invited. And didn’t Kenton sound relieved that it wouldn’t just be the three of them.

Something is badly amiss when you need a young teenager to take the edge off.

While Lilian’s away having boozy coffees …

… Brenda actually makes herself useful.

The first bit of real tension between Matt and Lilian, over the new business, is starting to be apparent.

Apart from Matt hiring Brenda without Lilian having a say, it’s becoming obvious that Matt’s approach to life (business first) is not sitting well with Lilian’s priority of friends and family.

She’s quite right to put Jolene before her work, but it’s not the best approach to a new business. Nor to working with Matt. Leaving him to his own devices could lead to big trouble (yet again!).

And while Lilian’s away working at The Bull, Brenda’s picking up the slack.

How long before Matt makes Brenda swear secrecy over a dodgy deal, odd phone calls, forging Lilian’s signature?

Pip still feels like an idiot

And so she should.

Daft wee madam that she is.

Will there be any surprises in Sid’s will?

Let’s hope not, for Jolene’s sake.

“That’s just sick”

It’s odd, but I can’t understand what Izzy sees in Pip as a mate – just as I couldn’t understand what Pip saw in Jude.

Pip’s lucky to have her, despite doing her best to insult Izzy over working in a supermarket.

And what was Pip thinking? Why on earth did she go to Jude’s flat? Checking his Facebook profile was daft, but understandable – going to his flat was just masochistic.

Still, if you go looking for a truth, you’re bound to find it at some point.

I wasn’t sure why she was so upset over her shampoo and toothbrush being dumped, and unless the CD was a particularly specially expensive one, that’s really no big deal either (and anyway – I didn’t think teenagers bought CDs anymore. Isn’t it all iTunes?).

“He didn’t care”

“Is this what he thinks of me? Rubbish?”

Yup indeed Pip.

Keep repeating it until it really sinks in (though preferably when you’re not on-air, as all this ‘I’m stupid’ and constant ‘revelations’ that Jude was a rotter is getting a bit tedious).

Should a friend tell you your partner is a bad-un while you’re still going out with them?

It’s a tough one, and Izzy did the atypical thing of saying ‘I never liked him anyway’ after the fact. She could have saved us all a lot of earache if she told Pip (and managed to convince her) when she first met Jude.

At least someone has sat Pip down and told her that Jude was never ‘all that’ to begin with.

And also told her that she was letting Jude take over her life.

Can we have the farming-lass Pip back now? Please?

The Archers: Sid’s ashes are scattered … Lynda takes charge of the whodunit

  • I’d forgotten about ‘that’ necklace
  • Kathy admits her mistake
  • LOVING the Agatha Christie mentions

I’d forgotten about ‘that’ necklace

Jolene’s mention of the necklace Sid had given her all those years ago brought be right back to the time their affair started.

Very strange to think of them back then, compared to the cosy life they built together.

I’ve said it before, but despite what I thought of him, it’s so obvious that many other’s though Sid was top notch.

Including poor heartbroken Jolene.

Kathy admits her mistake

As much as I’ve been very hard on Kenton over the last few weeks, it was petty of Kathy to not even tell him about Sid’s ashes being scattered – and downright spiteful not letting him be there.

Jamie asked if Kenton was coming, and it ended up having to be Tony who went after him when he couldn’t handle being at the scattering.

Bless Tony for trying, though, as he admitted, that whole emotional stuff just isn’t his forte.

As he said:

“Feelings are funny things”

and Kathy has lost someone very important to her.

But Tony telling Jamie to be “strong” for her was a bit too close to something like ‘There, there old chap. Stiff upper lip. Boys don’t cry. You’re the man of the house now …’

At the very least, he did manage to get Jamie to open up a bit about how Kathy’s reaction to Sid’s death has affected him.

And, Tony’s intervention also gave Kathy a bit of a kick up the posterior.

Her mistake (in trying to get “revenge” on Kenton for not going to new Zealand with them) has only resulted in Jamie getting hurt even further.

Question is – will Kathy admit that to Kenton?

Will Kenton, likewise, admit his mistakes to Kathy?

Could this be a turning point in them all being able to pull their family back together?

Or had the damage already been done.

(and I still think Kenton holds most of the blame …)

LOVING the Agatha Christie mentions

But that’s only because I am a huge Christe fan.

It’s also superb to have Lynda back in full flow.

“a lesser person that I might have felt snubbed”

And nice to have Joe there to keep her in check. While Lynda is trying to write in the style of “proper” detectives, Joe prefers a bit of The Sweeney. With Poirot, he finds them so slow, that he nods off half way through.

“The strange affair at Ambridge Towers”

Oh I just can’t wait!

Though, I am still wondering if this ‘pretend’ murder mystery will result in actual murder, a la Christe.

2nd July 2010

The Archers: Brenda’s job still makes demands of her … Jill’s new cookery video is another hit … the fete plans move forward … Kathy tells Kenton he’s not needed

  • “Pure energy – we’ve got it Tubed”
  • Does Tom ever think of anyone else?
  • Why doesn’t Jenny approve?
  • Here comes the food safety officer …
  • Does that mean no celeb at the fete?
  • At last, Kenton’s making an effort

“Pure energy – we’ve got it Tubed”

Not often I can say this, but I do feel for Brenda having to do field promotion.

It’s a thankless task, where the people you’re trying to ‘sell’ to are more likely to be offended, than grateful, that they’re being offered something for free.

Still, will Brenda’s daily work life improve when she’s working for Lilian and Matt?

Does Tom ever think of anyone else?

What a numpty!

Rather than quality time, he just wants quality brainstorming with Brenda.

I’m always amazed that Brenda can take that sort of nonsense in good humour.

Must be love.

Why doesn’t Jenny approve?

Did I hear that right? Did Jill say that Jenny wouldn’t want more of Jill’s cookery demonstrations to be filmed?

If so – what on earth is the problem?

Here comes the food safety officer …

I’m always suspicious when a (seemingly) small bit person gets a name.

‘Brenda Waters’, the food safety person.

Now what trouble can she cause for (or with?) Tom?

Does that mean no celeb at the fete?

It sounds like this murder mystery at the fete is going to be the big talking point – rather than which celeb is opening it.

I wonder if that means we’ll be celeb-less this year.

At last, Kenton’s making an effort

It’s been a long time coming, but it would seem that Kenton’s finally realised that he needs to be there for Jamie and Kathy.

Seemingly wee things like taking time off to watch the World Cup with Jamie will make a huge difference.

But is it too little, too late for Kathy?

Kenton had to find out from Jamie that Sid’s ashes were being scattered on Sunday.

And Kathy wasn’t entirely receptive when Kenton mentioned that he should be there.

“we got used to propping each other up”

Ouch.

And Kenton’s argument that he wasn’t part of Sid’s family has come back to bite him.

Still – where is Jamie in all of this? He seems to be forgotten during all those ‘adult’ discussions.

The Archers: Jude isn’t very supportive … Jolene’s back …and so is Lynda …Pip auctions her life ... Eddie gets ripped off

  • Jude’s uncle is going to hospital.
  • One mug … *sniff*
  • Where was Jazzer to wave Harry goodbye?
  • Pip up for auction
  • Hurrah! It’s Lynda!
  • “She must have had some kind of gift. She saw Eddie a mile off”
  • Do I sense an Agatha Christie homage?
  • Jokes about a new meaning to ‘The Ashes’ aside …
  • Izzy - just tell Pip to ‘do one’

Jude’s uncle is going to hospital.

Does that sound like a wee white lie, or not?

Considering he’s more concerned about his first coffee of the morning, rather than wishing Pip could luck with the job hunt. That’ll help pay for the trip. Which he seemingly should want her to go on (according to Pip).

Do we detect that Jude would rather avoid the conference/confrontation with David and Ruth?

No surprises these, I suppose, and Pip (as per) is utterly oblivious to Jude’s lukewarm attitude.

So, as Pip plans to show her parents just:

“how serious we are”

Jude’s started digging his escape tunnel.

One mug … *sniff*

I’ve not been that upset over Sid’s death, but tonight had a very poignant moment.

So simple. Jolene’s making tea, and automatically starts to ask Sid if he wants one.

Then she realises she’ll only ever need one mug.

Oh so sad.

Where was Jazzer to wave Harry goodbye?

It’s not like Jazzer to miss Harry moving out of the Bull.

Surely a great opportunity to jeer, take the mick, make sure he didn’t leave anything behind …

Then again, we all missed Harry moving out.

Bit of a damp squib?

Pip up for auction

While we’re all been thinking of ways to get rid of Jude and Pip, we were missing a trick.

Auction sites!

“Two healthy ‘young’ people, under the age of 30 (we think), one willing to work hard, the other might be able to fix your website. If he can be bothered. Both house trained and partially educated.”

That must be worth at least a reserve of a few pounds.

Of course, it’s only a matter of time before David and Ruth notice that Pip’s sold jewellery that they gave her for Christmas.

Queue shouting argument.

Hurrah! It’s Lynda!

Lovely to have Lynda back.

I eve did a wee ‘whoop’ when she launched back into the-Ambridge-we-can-hear with:

“It makes such a difference, Robert - being able to enjoy lunch al fresco”

And it wouldn’t be fair to not also welcome back Robert. Poor man gets sidelined at the best of times …

“She must have had some kind of gift. She saw Eddie a mile off”

So Felpersham Fox turned out to be “Felpersham Lead Balloon”.

Eddie loses his money, and Mystic Jodie gets away with a gallon of cider plus free camping.

Not so bad after all. Clarrie might only fall out with Eddie for a few days, rather than weeks!

Do I sense an Agatha Christie homage?

There has been recent the talk of a ‘big’ happening in January 2011 – rumoured to be a murder (which I personally think is very remiss of the BBC. If they know an Ambridge resident is going to be murdered, surely they should put a stop to it. Aiding and abetting?).

But, Lynda and Robert were talking about staging a ‘whodunit trail’ at the village fair.

Seemingly, at another village fair, the

“body by the lake created a huge sensation”

and there was also some sort of

“business by the boat house”

Surely that’s the plot line of Dead Man’s Folly by Agatha Christie?

Only, they’d better beware – in Dead Man’s Folly, the girl cast as the murder victim is found to have actually been murdered for real.

Will the Ambridge murdered take their chance to strike early?

Jokes about a new meaning to ‘The Ashes’ aside …

Jolene’s decided to scatter Sid’s ashes on the cricket ground this Sunday.

Interesting that her original list of folks who’d need to be there included herself, Fallon, Jamie and Tony.

But no Kathy.

Fallon had to point out that Jamie would want Kathy and Kenton there.

Will Kenton turn up this time?

Izzy - just tell Pip to ‘do one’

What a horrid little snob Pip is.

I’d forgive her for looking down on a job in a supermarket because of principles about local producers, but Pip simply thinks that kind of work is beneath her.

And to say all she did in front of her ‘friend’ Izzy! Who does work in a supermarket.

Little madam!

It was a different story when Pip first wanted to leave College to join Izzy and co. at the supermarket. Now that Pip thinks she’s going travelling, she’ll only demean herself to work there for a few weeks.

Seriously Izzy. Don’t help Pip get that job. She doesn’t deserve it.

That’s where the fire engine went … Matt’s nice to Brenda … Camp Grundy has a new plan … welcome to ‘Bruce the relief manager’ …Sid - not out of sight, out of mind

  • How clean was their cage?
  • I think I’d have preferred the Grundy’s Open Farm Sunday
  • Do we think Clarrie was embarrassed or murderous?
  • Has Brenda been taking ‘street talk’ lessons off of Jude?
  • Camp Grundy Plan B
  • Kenton’s only the boyfriend
  • The best shin dig The Bull’s ever seen

How clean was their cage?

Wasn’t that lovely hearing Eddie go all soft over his and Joe’s ferrets, Kim and Aggie.

They sound like happy, clean ferrets indeed.

“Give daddy a cuddle”

Aw – cute Eddie!

I think I’d have preferred the Grundy’s Open Farm Sunday

Arguments with punters – kids falling into compost - handbrake left off tractor – which then rolled into Clarrie's cake table - punters having to dive out the way – Barbarella (the sow) got spooked – took off and knocked over their only camper’s camping stove – who was luckily away for a piddle – tent goes on fire – Barbarella nearly becomes “smoky baking” – fire engine on the scene – and Clarrie “yet to see the funny side”

Or – a “squeaky clean” “wholesome family event” at the Archers?

Do we think Clarrie was embarrassed or murderous?

She warned them. She baked for them. Then they ran over her baking with a tractor.

I reckon Clarrie will definitely have murder in mind.

Has Brenda been taking ‘street talk’ lessons off of Jude?

“Must be a bummer”
“Whatever. I’ve moved on”

Hmmm. You must really ‘wow’ the clients with that grasped of the English language, PR guru lady!

Is Matt really being nice?

So, has Matt really changed, and is an all-round nice chap with a conscience?

As I heard him apologising to Brenda – I thought maybe.
But, then she made much lightness of Brenda’s belief that she’s more than a lackey

(“they really valued my input” *snort*)

And his interest in her was a bit suspicious.

What does Matt have in mind?

Camp Grundy Plan B

So Camp Grundy has gone from a rural retreat, to a biker’s meet

(see what I did there)

So Fat Paul’s biker mates are heading to Ambridge.
“It’s been put it onto the computer and everything”

Oh I hope Lynda gets her voice back soon. She’s not going to be a happy bunny …

Kenton’s only the boyfriend

So that’s why he didn’t drive them to the airport.

Huh?

The best shin dig The Bull’s ever seen

From an initial Thursday night minute silence … to making some noise!

Sounds grand.

I just wonder who might reappear to toast Sid …

11th June 2010

… Sid’s funeral to take place in New Zealand … Jaxx is quite ‘abstract’ … Kenton still doesn’t get it

  • What about Jamie?
  • I’m a sophisticated professional and I feel at home here
  • “Sid wasn’t my family”

What about Jamie?

Maybe it’s Lucy’s influence, but does Jolene really think that having Sid’s funeral in New Zealand is right?

What about Jamie? Kathy? Fallon? Everyone else?!?

They can still have a memorial when Jolene returns for Sid’s ashes, but that’s probably not enough for most folks.

Still, it’s easy to make judgements on the actions of someone who’s just lost their partner.

I’m a sophisticated professional and I feel at home here

Hmmm. Or is Jaxx just “abstract”?

I’m just not convinced that the Kenton/Jim combo will have resulted in anything classy or akin to (what seems to be their plan) of a London City-boy trend spot.

Time will tell.

“Sid wasn’t my family”

I can accept that Kenton finds it hard to cope with emotions at the best of times. I can also accept that he’s still in mourning for his dad. I can even accept that some folks just can’t handle death or being able to provide support to others who have been bereaved.

But.

Seriously.

Kenton’s being utterly rubbish!

I can see why he’s stressed about the timing, and feels he needs to be at Jaxx, but he surely can think before he speaks.

Kathy’s absolutely right in saying that the bar is more important to him. Can’t he see that Kathy and Jamie are having a horrific time, and badly need his support?

Or, does Kenton really just not care?

Thursday, 10 June 2010

9th June 2010

  • Arse. Jude’s back
  • Matt’s foot in the pub?
  • Kenton. Stop it. Stop it now.
  • Map Sticks
  • Jazzer didn’t get them from the garage!
  • And on Sid …

Arse. Jude’s back

I really didn’t realise what a relief it was to have days sans Jude until he turned up again.
“All a bit biz at the moment”

You utter cretin.

While trying to get Pip to have ‘one more’ before the bar shuts, Jude was waxing lyrical about Ibiza.

Ibiza? Isn’t that, like, soooo late decade?

Still. That makes sense, considering Jude’s a man trying to be a teenage boy.

Pip. Please dump him. I don’t know how much more we can take …

Matt’s foot in the pub?

The more cynical listeners-in to Ambridge might see Matt’s attempts to help out at The Bull are just his way of worming into the setup now that Sid has departed us.

True? Or is this indeed the new caring, sharing Matt Crawford?

Kenton. Stop it. Stop it now.

Okay – so I can accept Kenton is handling Sid’s death in his own way. That means he must be coming across as insensitive because he really isn’t good at handling a personal crisis.

But, that really doesn’t excuse his eagerness to get Jamie out of the house and back to school, the day after his dad has died. Poor wee lamb ended up crying in the middle of a lesson.

And what about Kenton escaping to the pub to moan about Kathy’s ‘wallowing’?

Kenton reckons that Kathy shouldn’t be that upset, as it’s been many years since she spilt up with Sid.

Eh?

What about all the time they did spend together? That they had a son together? That Sid was still a part of Kathy’s life? It’s not as if they split up and moved continents apart.

But, then there have also been signs that Kenton does ‘get it’. While he was in the middle of berating Kathy for ‘influencing’ Jamie to be grief-stricken (hmmm. I think Jamie can find his own feelings about this without Kathy’s help) – he did tell Kathy to give Jamie a big hug and tell him he was thinking of him.

Maybe that’s the problem? Kenton can only hug metaphorically?

Either way – get a grip Kenton and be a husband and a step-dad. You running away will only mean your family will end up running away from you.

Map Sticks

Pip’s getting back into the swing of being part of the family, and shall be at Open Farm Sunday.

Though she did explain it – I don’t entirely get the concept of Map Sticks …

Jazzer didn’t get them from the garage!

Good on you matey. Nice flowers, nice gesture, and (seemingly) meant without any romantic undertones.

Has Jazzer seen the light and realised he’d be better off being Fallon’s mate?

Or, more surprisingly, has he realised when it is and isn’t appropriate to put the squeeze on a lady?

And on Sid …

Here’s a reason ‘why’ from Tim Bentinck on Twitter (@timbentinck):

“In answer to kind questions about Alan Deveraux, he's decided to retire after over 30 years of being probably the best actor in the show.”

Sid Perks...

... is dead

All the discussions that have been going on about Sid only making it back from New Zealand in a box seem a bit ghoulish now.

I really didn’t expect that to happen so quickly.

I can’t say that Sid was ever one of my favourite Ambridge residents, but he was certainly one of the more ‘interesting’ folks at times. He silence over recent months was highly suggestive of what has now happened.

I really feel for Jolene being out in new Zealand, and having to deal with the practical side of the post mortem and getting Sid’s body back home, all without Fallon and her friends.

Still, it was nice to see Caroline back behind the bar, and at least Fallon had everyone to help.

But what was Kenton up to? As he said to Jamie, he knows exactly how he feels. So why was he being so flippant about having a ‘kick around’, how this was a chance for them all to spend time together, that they could have Chinese … does he not realise that Jamie’s a young lad who is far from ready to cope with losing a parent?

And what on earth was he blundering on about when he said:

“What lovely weather … ironic isn’t it?”

Was that irony in an Alanis Morissette way?

Kathy should have let him get back to Jaxx. I thought he was doing more harm than good.

Now then - what about the Bull? Will Mat turn it into flats?

Will Harry choose mum over daughter?

What where on earth was Jazzer?!? Missed your moment, matey ...

NB: lots of rumours about whether Sid Perks' death has anything to do with Alan Devereux being ill, fallen out with the BBC etc etc. Nothing official that I can see, but if Alan is poorly, I hope a speedy recovery.

  • At last, someone is utterly delighted for Helen
  • Now Kenton & Co. are off to NZ

At last, someone is utterly delighted for Helen

I thought it was lovely to hear Kirsty being so happy about Helen’s pregnancy

Kirsty thinks that Helen will make an ideal mum:

“Calm, loving and patient”

And can’t wait to get on with choosing names.

As Kirsty said, Helen’s happier than she’s ever been, seeming “at home” with herself. Maybe this will indeed herald a more child, happy Helen?

However, interesting that they were talking about whether Helen has actually ever got over Greg (yes or no?).

And Patrick also seemed to be back in the picture (well, for Pat).

Is Patrick going to be her ideal man at the wrong time?

Now Kenton & Co. are off to NZ

Oh dear. More and more ominous for Sid ever making it back alive …

Monday, 31 May 2010

30th May 2010

  • Now I’m really worried for Sid
  • Nachos!
  • David forgets he has three kids

Now I’m really worried for Sid

When I heard Jolene talking to Fallon, I thought to myself that they must have just got back from New Zealand.

Of course – they haven’t even been yet!

Jolene has been super silent for a while now, but Sid has turned into a silent character.

“It’s not as if I’m never going to see you again”

Yikes. Ominous and a tad concerning …

Nachos!

I was thinking that I’d be one of the Bull’s punters to complain about my Sunday Roast being replaced by Nachos – but then realised that I too probably would have been more than placated with a few margaritas.

And that’s why you can trust Lilian to rise to the occasion. Just give her a few bottles of booze, and she could calm a rioting mob.

David forgets he has three kids

Josh was complaining a while back that David and Ruth only had time for Pip – but what about Ben?

David knew that Josh was out, and had been trying to get Pip to spend some ‘quality’ time with home and Ruth. He only realised that Ben wasn’t even in the house when Ruth mentioned it.

It’s that sort of behaviour that will make Ben a tricky chap in the future (hurrah!).

  • At least the Vicar approves
  • Sid and Jolene: new careers as silent characters?
  • I love Matt

At least the Vicar approves

That’s always the best way to win the village’s approval in these modern times – just get the local vicar to approve.

With Alan onside, and Shula happy about the new charity side to the Sticky Wicket, what’s Jazzer going to find to complain about now? I'm sure he'll find something. That Harry just isn't going to find any peace away from that jealous wee Scotsman.

Sid and Jolene: new careers as silent characters?

What’s happened to them?

Jolene was heard to mutter a few words to Fallon some weeks ago, but Sid hasn’t been heard of for many a day.

Maybe they’re too busy packing.

I love Matt

And there you have it. The reason why Paul hasn’t won Lilian, and why she’s sticky with her Tiger.

In saying that, Lilian really shouldn’t be trying to call Paul, and Jennifer was absolutely right in being appalled that Lilian is trying to make all three of them friends.

I think prison has changed Matt, making him realise how important Lilian is.

And he even wants to than Brian and Jennifer. Properly.

Who’d have ever thought we’d have seen the day!?!

But how long will he last like that? How long before the pound signs take him over?
